THE MEDICAL ADVOCACY TRAINING PROGRAM IS A 9-WEEK SIGNATURE COURSE DEVELOPED AND DESIGNED TO ADDRESS A SPECIFIC PAIN POINT EXPRESSED LOUDLY BY PATIENTS AND CAREGIVERS IN THE SICKLE CELL COMMUNITY, NAMELY THE INCONSISTENCY OF EMERGENCY ROOM AND HOSPITAL MANAGEMENT OF SICKLE CELL DISEASE. THE ORGANIZATION INTERVIEWED 40 PEOPLE AND ACCEPTED 25 AND OUT OF WHICH 18 PEOPLE COMPLETED THE PROGRAM AND GRADUATED. SCMA NOW HAS A TOTAL OF 61 ADVOCATES, EXPANDING TO 21 STATES.
