RIGHT TO HOUSINGTHE RIGHT TO HOUSING CAMPAIGN IS A SPACE FOR LONG-TIME DC RESIDENTS STRUGGLING AGAINST DISPLACEMENT AND FOR SAFE AND AFFORDABLE HOUSING TO COME TOGETHER WITH ALLIES TO BUILD COLLECTIVE POWER. WE FIGHT TO GAIN GREATER COMMUNITY CONTROL OF LAND AND HOUSING BY ORGANIZING WITH TENANTS TO RESIST LANDLORD'S & DEVELOPER'S DISPLACEMENT TACTICS; CONVERTING TENANT BUILDINGS INTO COOPERATIVES; OR WINNING RESIDENT'S RIGHT TO RETURN. THROUGH DIRECT ACTION, POLITICAL EDUCATION, AND A SLEW OF OTHER ORGANIZING STRATEGIES, WE WORK TO ENSURE THAT HOUSING REMAINS TRULY AFFORDABLE AND SEEK TO MINIMIZE CITYWIDE EFFORTS TO PRIVATIZE AND DEMOLISH MUCH-NEEDED SUBSIDIZED HOUSING.
RIGHT TO INCOMERIGHT TO INCOME IS THE BLACK WORKERS AND WELLNESS CENTER'S ANCHOR ORGANIZING CAMPAIGN FOR LONG-TIME D.C. RESIDENTS SEEKING BETTER LABOR CONDITIONS, LIVING WAGE WORK, AND COOPERATIVE ECONOMICS. RIGHT TO INCOME WORKS TO UPROOT PRACTICES THAT HAVE SYSTEMATICALLY DISADVANTAGED LOW-WAGE WORKERS AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR CHRONIC ECONOMIC INSECURITY. CAMPAIGN LEADERS WILL BE REPRESENTATIVES OF THE BLACK WORKERS AND WELLNESS CENTER'S PRIMARY BASE, WHICH IS LOW-WAGE, LONG-TIME BLACK D.C. RESIDENTS. OUR CAMPAIGNS IN THE PAST HAVE FOCUSED ON JOB TRAINING, ADDRESSING INJUSTICES AT THE WORKPLACE, WAGE THEFT LEGAL CLINICS AND SHARED WORK.
