THE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAM IS OFFERED AT A TIME WHEN MANY STUDENTS WOULD OTHERWISE BE HOME ALONE WHILE PARENTS ARE AT WORK MONDAY THROUGH THURSDAY FROM 4:30PM TO 7:30PM. AT INSPIRING MINDS, STUDENTS CAN STUDY IN A HAPPY, SAFE AND STRUCTURED ENVIRONMENT THAT INCLUDES PERSONALIZED TUTORING, MENTORING, WORKSHOPS, AND THE ENCOURAGEMENT THEY NEED TO BECOME THE NEXT GENERATION OF LEADERS. OUR PROGRAMMING WAS OFFERED TO 20 DURHAM HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS. THE STUDENTS HAD THE OPPORTUNITY TO TOUR 4 UNIVERSITIES AND 12 DIFFERENT INDUSTRIES! THIS PROGRAM WAS ALSO SUPPORTED DURING THE YEAR BY IN KIND DONATIONS OF SERVICES INCLUDING COMPUTERS, OFFICE, CLASSROOM SPACE USE VALUED AT $5000.
SUMMER PROGRAMMING INCLUDES A COMBINATION OF FUN ACTIVITIES FOCUSED ON ACADEMICS, SPORTS, HEALTH AND NEW EXPERIENCES. STUDENTS RETAIN KNOWLEDGE THEY WOULD TYPICALLY LOSE DURING THE SUMMER OFF FROM SCHOOL, AND THEYRE IN A SAFE ENVIRONMENT SURROUNDED BY POSITIVE ROLE MODELS THAT CAN LEAD THEM TO A PROMISING FUTURE. OUR CHAPTER JOINED THE OTHER IM CHAPTERS IN WASHINGTON DC FOR AN ACTION-PACKED WEEK OF EXPOSURE. SOME OF THE STUDENTS EXPERIENCED THEIR FIRST FLIGHT, TOURS OF AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM, HISTORICAL MONUMENTS, CULTURAL TOURS OF SEVERAL BUSINESSES AND ACCESS TO MANY ENTREPRENEURS.
