Describe the Organization's Mission:
Part 3 - Line 1
OUR MISSION IS TO BE AN INDISPENSABLE RESOURCE THAT STRENGTHENS, UNITES, AND INSPIRES OUR COMMUNITIES. WE WILL ACCOMPLISH THIS THROUGH TRUSTWORTHY QUALITY JOURNALISM THAT TELLS THE VARIED STORIES OF OUR PEOPLE, HOLDS OUR LEADERS ACCOUNTABLE, AND DELIVERS LOCAL NEWS THAT READERS ARE WILLING TO SUPPORT.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE ORGANIZATION'S INAUGURAL YEAR WAS A BUILDUP TO THE 2022 LAUNCH OF THE BALTIMORE BANNER, OUR FLAGSHIP DIGITAL NEWS PRODUCT. THE PRIMARY ACTIVITIES AND EXPENSES INCURRED WERE CENTERED ON HIRING AN EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP TEAM, HIGHLIGHTED BY RECRUITING A CEO, EDITOR IN CHIEF, CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER, CHIEF PRODUCT OFFICER, HEAD OF PEOPLE AND CULTURE, AND HEAD OF TECHNOLOGY. IN ADDITION, SEVERAL STEPS WERE TAKEN FOLLOWING THE ESTABLISHMENT OF THE INSTITUTE TO CONDUCT MARKET RESEARCH IN BALTIMORE CITY AND SURROUNDING COUNTIES TO DETERMINE THE PROFILES AND PREFERENCES OF OUR POTENTIAL AUDIENCE. THIS INFORMATION WOULD LATER HELP OUR MARKETING TEAM DETERMINE APPROPRIATE MARKETING STRATEGIES FOR REACHING POTENTIAL LOCAL NEWS CONSUMERS. THE MARKETING AND PUBLIC RELATIONS APPARATUS FOR THE INSTITUTE ALSO UNDERTOOK A SUBSTANTIAL PR PUSH FOR THE INSTITUTE AND THE BALTIMORE BANNER, CREATING AWARENESS AND BUZZ WE WOULD CONTINUE TO BUILD UPON TOWARD THE 2022 LAUNCH. THESE EFFORTS WERE AUGMENTED BY COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT WORK ASSESSING THE NEEDS OF NEIGHBORHOODS AND PREVIOUSLY MARGINALIZED CONSTITUENTS ACROSS THE CITY. THE INSTITUTE'S LEADERSHIP ALSO ENGAGED IN CONVERSATIONS WITH POTENTIAL NONPROFIT NEWS ORGANIZATION PARTNERS THAT COULD ALIGN WITH US TO MUTUALLY EXTEND AND GROW AUDIENCES AND TELL STORIES WHERE MISSIONS ALIGN. ALL THESE ACTIVITIES PREPARED THE ORGANIZATION FOR LIMITED NEWS DISTRIBUTION IN FEBRUARY 2022 VIA EMAIL NEWSLETTERS, AND MORE FULLY WITH THE OFFICIAL NEWS SITE LAUNCH IN JUNE 2022.
