IN 2021, THE MUSEUM OF CONTEMPORARY ART (MOCA) TUCSON SERVED 12,706 INDIVIDUALS, 8,500 OF WHOM WERE YOUTH, REACHED THROUGH ON-SITE AND IN-SCHOOL ART EDUCATION PROGRAMS. THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, MOCA HOSTED CONTEMPORARY ART EXHIBITIONS AND PROGRAMS INCLUDING POETRY READINGS, FILM SCREENINGS, LECTURES, AND DISCUSSIONS, WHICH SERVED NEARLY 1,000 ADULTS. MOCA ALSO OFFERED EDUCATIONAL INITIATIVES THAT REACHED THOUSANDS OF UNDERSERVED YOUTH, INCLUDING LGBTQIA+ COMMUNITIES AND TITLE I STUDENTS IN OVER 70 SCHOOLS, THROUGH NO-COST PROGRAMING.
OVER THE YEAR, MOCA HOSTED FIVE EXHIBITIONS, INCLUDING:-WORKING FROM HOME: NEW COMMISSIONS FROM TUCSON -PIA CAMIL: THREE WORKS -THE THINGS WE KEEP: SELECTIONS FROM OLIVIER MOSSET'S ARCHIVE -WERE-:NENETECH FORMS -MUJERES NOURISHING FRONTERIZX BODIES: RESISTANCE IN THE TIME OF COVID-19 THESE EXHIBITIONS WERE ACCOMPANIED BY ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCY PROGRAMS, ENABLING ARTISTS TO CREATE LIVE ON-SITE.
MOCA DIRECTLY SUPPORTED OVER 100 INDIVIDUAL ARTISTS IN 2021 THROUGH EXHIBITIONS, RESIDENCIES, PROGRAMS, AND DIRECT FUNDING. $60,000 PAID OUT IN GRANTS TO SUPPORT ARTIST WORK IN THE REGION. 10 PERSONS RECEIVED A PORTION OF THE REGRANTING MONEY. OUT OF THE $60,000: FOUR (4) $7000 GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED. TWO (2) $6,000 GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED. FOUR (4) $5000 GRANTS WERE DISTRIBUTED. THE REGRANTING IS MEANT TO SUPPORTS THE CREATION OF INDEPENDENT, NON-TRADITIONAL, PUBLIC-FACING ARTISTS' PROJECTS. THE PROGRAM IS MEANT TO FUND ARTISTIC ACTIVITY OUTSIDE OF THE STUDIO.
