TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT OPEN SPACE, WILDLIFE HABITAT, WORKING (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O) AGRICULTURAL LANDS AND THE SCENIC AND CULTURAL VALUES OF NORTH-CENTRAL ARIZONA FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

IN 2021, THE CENTRAL ARIZONA LAND TRUST CONTINUED MANAGING A FEDERAL GRANT FOR $1.75 M, RECEIVED BY THE US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE, NATURAL RESOURCE CONSERAVATION SERVICE IN 2019, TO PROTECT 900 ACRES OF THE ORME RANCH IN CENTRAL YAVAPAI COUNTY. THESE FUNDS WILL BE USED TO ACQUIRE A CONSERVATION EASEMENT WHICH CONTINUES RANCH AND FARMING OPERATIONS AND PREVENTS DEVELOPMENT AND/OR SUBDIVISION. THE PROJECT IS IN ITS FINAL PHASE, AND WILL CLOSE WITH RECORDING OF A DEED OF CONSERVATION EASEMENT, WHEN FINAL APPROVALS FROM NRCS ARE RECEIVED. (CONTINUED ON SCHEDULE O)ALSO DURING 2021 CALT WAS AWARDED A CONTRACT FROM THE CITY OF PHOENIX, FARMLAND PROTECTION PROGRAM TO ACQUIRE CONSERVATION EASEMENTS ON AGRICULTURAL PROPERTIES WITHIN THE CITY OF PHOENIX. ALSO, CALT WAS AWARDED A CONTRACT FROM THE NATURE CONSERVANCY OF ARIZONA TO CONDUCT LAND OWNER OUTREACH IN THE UPPER VERDE RIVER WATERSHED, AS PART OF THEIR EFFORTS TO PROTECT THE FLOW OF THE VERDE RIVER. CALT HOLDS SIX CONSERVATION EASEMENTS TOTALING 4838.52 ACRES THROUGHOUT THE CENTRAL HIGHLANDS OF YAVAPAI AND COCONINO COUNTIES IN ARIZONA. ANNUAL MONITORING OF EACH EASEMENT TO ASSURE THE TERMS OF THE CONSERVATION EASEMENT ARE BEING UPHELD, WAS COMPLETED IN 2021. CALT CONTINUES TO ENJOY THE SUPPORT OF OVER 1000 CITIZENS IN CENTRAL AND NORTHERN ARIZONA, WHO RECEIVE OUR SEMI-ANNUAL NEWSLETTER TO STAY INFORMED OF CURRENT AND FUTURE PROJECTS TO PRESERVE AND PROTECT THE HISTORIC, SCENIC, RIPARIAN AND CULTURAL HERITAGE OF THE AREA FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.
