THE FOUNDATION IDENTIFIED THE GROWTH OF THE PRESBYTERIAN NEUROSCIENCE PROGRAM AS A FUNDRAISING PRIORITY, IN ALIGNMENT WITH PHS PRIORITIES - AND IN RECOGNITION OF THE NEED TO GROW THE BREADTH OF THIS CARE AREA AND REDUCE THE NEED FOR NEW MEXICANS TO LEAVE THE STATE FOR THIS IMPORTANT SPECIALTY CARE. A VOLUNTEER TASK FORCE COMPRISED OF FOUNDATION BOARD MEMBERS WAS ASSEMBLED TO LEAD FUNDRAISING TOWARD A $5.0 MILLION WORKING GOAL. A $2.0 MILLION GIFT CREATED PRESBYTERIAN'S FIRST PHYSICIAN ENDOWED CHAIR FOR THE NEUROSCIENCE PROGRAM. ADDITIONAL DOLLARS WERE RAISED AND DIRECTED TO TECHNOLOGY AND EQUIPMENT FOR PRESBYTERIAN HOSPITAL TO ENHANCE NEUROSURGERY CAPABILITIES. FUNDRAISING CONTINUES TOWARD OTHER NEEDS, ULTIMATELY TO MAKE NEUROSCIENCE CARE MORE ACCESIBLE TO PEOPLE THROUGHOUT NEW MEXICO FOR A WIDE RANGE OF CONDITIONS OF THE BRAIN, SPINAL CORD, AND SUPPORTING NERVES AND BLOOD VESSELS.
THE FOUNDATION FULFILLED A $1 MILLION COMMITMENT, INCLUDING NEW GIFTS/PLEDGES AND ALLOCATION OF UNRESTRICTED DOLLARS, TOWARD THE $4.5 MILLION CONSTRUCTION OF THE NEW PRESBYTERIAN BREAST CARE LOCATION IN PRESBYTERIAN RUST MEDICAL CENTER'S PHYSICIAN OFFICE BUILDING. THE NEW LOCATION BRINGS TOGETHER SCREENING, DIAGNOSIS AND TREATMENT OPTIONS FOR BREAST CANCER AND NON-MALIGNANT BREAST DISEASE. CARE IS PROVIDED BY A TEAM OF MULTIDISCIPLINARY SPECIALISTS FROM PRESBYTERIAN MEDICAL GROUP AND RADIOLOGY ASSOCIATES OF ALBUQUERQUE.
THE FOUNDATION HAS PRIORITIZED THE HEALTH AND WELL-BEING OF PROVIDERS AND STAFF, RECOGNIZING THAT BURNOUT, EXTREME FATIGUE, AND ASSOCIATED ISSUES HAVE SKYROCKETED DURING THE PANDEMIC WITH THE MAJORITY OF HEALTHCARE WORKERS NOW REPORTING CHALLENGES IN THESE AREAS. IN 2021, THE FOUNDATION AWARDED $411,198 TO NURSING AND PHYSICIAN ENGAGEMENT EFFORTS. AMONG THE FUNDED PROGRAMS WERE RENEW, A FOUR-DAY PROGRAM FOR FRONTLINE NURSES; "RELATIONS", A COMMUNICATIONS TRAINING SERIES FOR PROVIDERS AND STAFF; AND "ECHO BURNOUT", A PROGRAM THAT USES TELECONFERENCING TECHNOLOGY TO CONNECT A CONTENT SPECIALIST WITH PARTICIPANTS. THE "ECHO BURNOUT" WAS EXPANDED WITH SEPARATE VERSIONS FOR PROVIDERS AND NON-CLINICAL STAFF.
