NIAAH CERTIFIED - IS A PROVIDER CERTIFICATION PROGRAM IN PARTNERSHIP WITH PRE-MED FOR PHYSICIANS OF ALL RACES, ETHNICITIES, AND BACKGROUNDS. THROUGH PARTICIPATION IN TAILORED ONLINE EDUCATIONAL MODULES THAT ADDRESS THE MYRIAD OF IMPORTANT DIFFERENCES THAT IMPACT AFRICAN AMERICAN HEALTHCARE OUTCOMES. PROVIDERS WILL IMPROVE BOTH THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF AFRICAN AMERICAN PATIENT PERSPECTIVES AS WELL AS BEST PRACTICES FOR IMPROVING OUTCOMES. THE MODULES OFFERED WILL BE VARIED SO PROVIDERS CAN CHOOSE THE TOPICS THAT BEST SUIT THEIR PRACTICE BUT WILL SPECIFY A PREDETERMINED MINIMAL NUMBER TO ACHIEVE CERTIFICATION. EVERYONE WOULD RECIEVE FOUNDATIONAL TRAINING THAT ADDRESS THE HISTORICAL INFLUENCES THAT IMPACT MANY AFRICAN AMERICANS; VIEW OF THE U.S. HEALTHCARE SYSTEM; PROVIDER AND PATIENT BIAS DYNAMICS; COMMUNICATION STRATEGIES; NATIONAL HEALTH OUTCOMES DATA; AND DISEASE PREVENTION BEST PRACTICES.
NIAAH MEDICAL EXPERTS - WILL INCLUDE A PANEL OF PHYSICANS AND PHD-LEVEL PROFESSIONALS IN STEM FIELDS. THEY WILL CREATE, UPDATE, AND REVIEW CONTENT FOR THE NIAAH WEBSITE, SERVE AS MENTORS TO THE NIAAH SCHOLARS, PROVIDE TESTIMONY IN CASES WHERE THEY CAN BE HELPFUL, SUPPORT THE SUCCESS OF OTHER AFRICAN AMERICANS IN HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONS AND BE ADVOCATES FOR UNDESERVED PATIENTS TO RECEIVE THE CARE THEY NEED AND DESERVE.
NIAAH SCHOLARS - IS DESIGNED TO AID AFRICAN AMERICAN PRE-MED AND MEDICAL STUDENTS ON THEIR PATH TO BECOMING A PHYSICIAN WITH MENTORSHIP, COACHING, ACADEMIC SUPPORT AND FINANCIAL SUPPORT. MENTORSHIP WILL HAPPEN ON A CONTINUM OF EXPLORATION OF MEDICAL CAREERS DURING GRADE SCHOOL, PREPARATION FOR MEDICAL CAREERS DURING INTERMEDIATE YEARS, PROFESSIONAL AND ACADEMIC GUIDANCE DURING MEDICAL SCHOOL, AND NETWORKING AND CONTINUING EDUCATION DURING THE RESIDENCY YEARS TO FOSTER A TRUE SENSE OF BELONGING. AS A MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL ACADEMIC SUPPORT WILL INCLUDE CRITICAL SCIENCE COURSES AND STANDARDIZED EXAM PREPRATION. IN ADDITION, NIAAH WILL BE PART OF STUDENT COMMUNITIES THAT WILL SUPPORT HEALTHY LIFESTYLE PRACTICES AND EFFICIENT STUDY AS WELL AS FOSTER PEER MENTORSHIP.
