YTJ SCHOOL SUSPENSION ALTERNATIVES: WE WORK WITH SCHOOL STAFF, STUDENTS, AND ADMINISTRATION TO SHIFT SCHOOL CULTURE AND BEHAVIOR FROM PUNITIVE TO PEER-LED RESTORATIVE AND TRAUMA-INFORMED DISCIPLINE SYSTEMS. ACTIVITIES INCLUDE STAFF AND STUDENT TRAINING, PEER-LED RESTORATIVE CIRCLES AND COMMUNITY BUILDING CIRCLES TO DIVERT SUSPENSIONS AND REDUCE RECIDIVISM. SUCCESSES INCLUDE A SUSPENSION REDUCTION OF 33% OVER ONE YEAR, IMPACTING PRIMARILY BIPOC YOUTH. PEER SOLUTIONS YOUTH DIVERSION PROGRAMYTJ PEER SOLUTIONS IS A PEER-LED RESTORATIVE AND TRAUMA-INFORMED DIVERSION PROGRAM TAKING REFERRALS FROM MARIN PROBATION, LAW ENFORCEMENT, TRAFFIC COURT AND SCHOOLS FOR TEENS WHO HAVE COMMITTED MISDEMEANORS OR VIOLATED SCHOOL RULES. THROUGH THE PROGRAM, TEENS TAKE ACCOUNTABILITY FOR THEIR POOR CHOICES, REFLECT ON WHY THEY MADE BAD DECISIONS, AND WORK TO REPAIR THE DAMAGE TO THE COMMUNITY AND RELATIONSHIPS THROUGH AN ASSIGNED STRENGTH-BASED RESTORATIVE PLAN. YTJS PEER SOLUTIONS PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES THESE TEENS AND THEIR FAMILIES WITH A 12-HOUR DRUG AND ALCOHOL SAFETY SKILLS TRAINING. LAST YEAR 40 FAMILIES BENEFITED FROM AND COMPLETED THIS PROGRAM. WE HAVE WORKED WITH OVER 300 TEENS THROUGH THE SCHOOL SUSPENSION ALTERNATIVES PROGRAM.
