SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING EDUCATION FOR INFRASTRUCTURE TRANSFORMATION - THIS PROJECT HAS CREATED A CYBERINFRASTRUCTURE THAT SUPPORTS CITIZEN SCIENCE IN THE CONTEXT OF ENERGY TO BRIDGE FORMAL AND INFORMAL SCIENCE EDUCATION AND STUDIED ITS EFFECTIVENESS FOR SUPPORTING STUDENT LEARNING. IT HAS PRODUCED THREE OPEN-SOURCE SOFTWARE PROGRAMS INFRARED EXPLORER, TELELAB, AND INFRARED STREET VIEW. IT HAS PUBLISHED MORE THAN TEN PAPERS IN PEER-REVIEWED ACADEMIC JOURNALS.


SMARTCAD GUIDING ENGINEERING DESIGN WITH SCIENCE AND SIMULATIONS - THIS PROJECT INVESTIGATED HOW SCIENCE SIMULATIONS AND ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE CAN BE EMBEDDED IN ENGINEERING DESIGN TOOLS TO GUIDE STUDENTS IN SOLVING DESIGN CHALLENGES. IT HAS DEVELOPED AN OPEN-SOURCE CAD SOFTWARE TOOL NAMED AS ALADDIN, WHICH SUPPORTS ARCHITECTURAL ENGINEERING AND RENEWABLE ENERGY ENGINEERING. IT HAS CONDUCTED RESEARCH IN SEVERAL MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOLS, INVOLVING HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS FROM DIVERSE SOCIOECONOMIC BACKGROUNDS.


EDUCATING GENERATIVE DESIGNERS IN ENGINEERING - IN COLLABORATION WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF TEXAS AT AUSTIN, THIS PROJECT DEVELOPS GENERATIVE DESIGN SOFTWARE THAT SUPPORTS THE RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT OF GENERATIVE DESIGN THINKING.
