TO BREAK THE CYCLE OF EXTREME POVERTY AND TO OFFER HOPE AND A FUTURE TO THE MOST VULNERABLE CHILDREN AND FAMILIES LIVING IN KORAH, ETHIOPIA.

FAMILY EMPOWERMENT: WE SEEK TO HELP FAMILIES THRIVE BY OFFERING RESOURCES THAT HELP FAMILIES STABILIZE THEIR HEALTH, GAIN ACCESS TO EDUCATIONAL AND VOCATIONAL TRAINING, AND STRENGTHEN THEIR RELATIONSHIPS WITH EACH OTHER AND THEIR COMMUNITY. DURING 2022, 78 FAMILIES RECEIVED MONTHLY RENT AND GROCERIES, 32 FAMILIES RECEIVED BEDS AND BEDDING, 80 FAMILIES RECEIVED BLANKETS, 261 HOLIDAY CHICKENS WERE DISTRIBUTED, 325 CHILDREN AND 95 ADULTS RECEIVED SHOES AND SOCKS.


HEALTH AND NUTRITION: HEALTH STABILITY AND NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT ARE CRITICAL ASPECTS OF HELPING CHILDREN, FAMILIES, AND ELDERS TO OVERCOME THE FORMIDABLE BARRIERS THAT LIVING IN EXTREME POVERTY HAS PLACED IN THEIR LIVES. WE HAVE 6 PROGRAMS THE SERVE HEALTH AND NUTRITION NEEDS. 1) THE WATER FOR KORAH PROGRAM: DURING 2022, A HIGH-YIELD 220 METER DEEP WELL WAS DRILLED AT A LOCAL SCHOOL AND 100,000 LITERS OF WATER WAS DELIVERED DAILY TO THE SCHOOL. THIS PROVIDED ACCESS TO CLEAN WATER FOR 7,000 STUDENTS AND 350 SCHOOL STAFF. 2) THE BERTA BREAKFAST PROGRAM: PROVIDED 487+ CHILDREN WITH FORTIFIED PANCAKES AND MILK BEFORE SCHOOL, 130 KINDERGARTEN CHILDREN WITH ADDITIONAL PROTEIN, FRUITS, AND VEGETABLES. 3) THE HFK DAYCARE: 47 PRESCHOOL CHILDREN RECEIVED 2 DAILY MEALS AND SNACKS. 4) YOUTH PROGRAMS: 315 CHILDREN RECEIVED REGULAR AFTER-SCHOOL SNACKS AND 611 CHILDREN RECEIVED REGULAR SNACKS. 5) THE ELDERS' HOME: PROVIDED 8 ELDERS WITH LEPROSY DAILY SUPPORT INCLUDING HOUSING, FOOD, SUNDRIES, CLOTHING, MEDICAL CARE, AND SPECIAL OUTINGS. 6) HEALTH SERVICES PROGRAMS: PROVIDED 1540+ FAMILIES ACCESS TO FREE MEDICAL SERVICES AND PRESCRIPTIONS, 106 FAMILIES RECEIVED ANNUAL INSURANCE POLICIES, 5 PEOPLE RECEIVED HOSPITAL CARE, 5 PEOPLE RECEIVED PSYCHIATRIC TREATMENT, 220 ADULTS AND CHILDREN DEWORMED, 360 YOUTH ATTENDED HEALTH TRAININGS, 337 CHILDREN RECEIVED MALNUTRITION SCREENING AND 58 CHRONIC OR ACUTELY ILL, IMMUNITY-COMPROMISED, PRENATAL/LACTATING, OR MALNOURISHED INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED ONGOING MONTHLY NUTRITIONAL SUPPORT.


BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT: TO SPUR FAMILIES ON TOWARDS ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT AND INDEPENDENCE, HFK FACILITATES BUSINESS TRAININGS, SELF-HELP GROUP PARTICIPATION AND SOCIAL WORK SUPPORT TO BUILD COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS, PROVIDE APPLICABLE SKILLS & EMPOWER FAMILIES TO LAUNCH THEIR OWN INITIATIVES. DURING 2022, 17 ADULTS DEVELOPED BUSINESS/EMPLOYMENT PLANS, 14 ADULTS RECEIVED BUSINESS GRANTS, 58 ADULTS ATTENDED BUSINESS TRAININGS, 83 ADULTS RECEIVED LITERACY AND VOCATIONAL TRAININGS, 2 BUSINESS COOPERATIVES WERE ESTABLISHED, 3 SAVINGS AND CREDIT SELF-HELP GROUPS WERE CREATED.
