Grants Awarded

Over the last fiscal year, Plasticfreerestaurants Org has awarded $29,016 in support to 3 organizations.

Grant RecipientAmount

FREMONT UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

PURPOSE: The purpose of this grant was the purchase of 3,200 stainless steel trays, 1,226 stainless steel spoons, and 624 stainless steel forks for five elementary schools that eliminated their single-use plastic utensils and single-use PFAS-tainted sugarcane-based compartment trays. It should be noted here that the $16,000 spent by Plastic Free Restaurants on the 3,200 trays was money spent in 2022 (not 2023). The FUSD grant/contribution from Plastic Free Restaurants was made in 2023, but the bulk of the money was spent the year before (and kept as a stockpile of trays at the manufacturer's headquarters).

$16,899

ZERO WASTE ITHACA (VIA NOPI)

PURPOSE: This grant was for the implementation of 3,200 stainless steel sporks across ten schools in the Ithaca City School District. Several of the schools failed to follow through, so the unused supplies are being donated by Zero Waste Ithaca to a school district in Rhode Island in 2024.

$6,400

ALAMEDA UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT

PURPOSE: For the purchase and implementation of stainless steel trays, forks, and spoons at three elementary schools in the AUSD system.
