TO SERVE AS A MARINE DISASTER RESPONSE AND PREPARATION ORGANIZATION THAT USES LESSONS LEARNED DURING PREVIOUS DISASTERS TO LEAD THE COUNTRY IN DEVELOPING AND DOCUMENTING BEST PRACTICES FOR FUTURE DISASTER RESPONSE. WE ENDEAVOR TO CREATE A STRONG NETWORK OF PUBLIC AND PRIVATE PARTNERSHIPS TO ACHIEVE THIS GOAL.

WHEN THE COVID-19 PANDEMIC HIT, IDEA RELIEF WAS FORCED TO CONFRONT A MAJOR FOOD CRISIS IN ABACO AS THOSE RESIDENTS ALREADY STRUGGLING TO RECOVER FROM HURRICANE DORIAN AND MANY WERE WITHOUT JOBS. THE PANDEMIC EXACERBATED THIS CRISIS BE EFFECTIVELY SHUTTING DOWN TOURISM, THE ISLANDS NUMBER ONE INDUSTRY. IN A UNIQUE PUBLIC-PRIVATE PARTNERSHIP WITH THE BAHAMIAN GOVERNMENT, IDEA RELIEF IMPLEMENTED A YEAR-LONG FOOD DISTRIBUTION PROGRAM WHICH IMPACTED AN AVERAGE OF 12,000 ABACONIANS PER WEEK (PEAKING AT 16,000). AS THE ZONE LEADERS FOR ABACO, IDEA RELIEF WAS RESPONSIBLE FOR MANAGING A FIVE-MILLION-DOLLAR BUDGET FOR THIS PROGRAM.
