BLACKPACKERS' EXEMPT PURPOSE IS TO: 1.) ADDRESS ECONOMIC INEQUITIES IN OUTDOOR RECREATION AND 2.) INCREASE PARTICIPATION NUMBERS OF UNDERREPRESENTED GROUPS IN THE OUTDOOR RECREATION INDUSTRY BY PROVIDING FREE OR SUBSIDIZED GEAR, ACTIVITIES, AND EDUCATION TO THE MOST ECONOMICALLY VULNERABLE.

SNOW SPORTS EXCURSIONS - THROUGH A GRANT FROM THE NATIONAL RECREATION FOUNDATION AND A PARTNERSHIP WITH ARAPAHOE BASIN SKI AREA, BLACKPACKERS HOSTED 4 SKI DAYS, BRINGING A TOTAL OF APPROXIMATELY 100 PARTICIPANTS TOGETHER FOR SKIING LESSONS AND FELLOWSHIP.


THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH COLORADO PARKS & WILDLIFE, BLACKPACKERS HOSTED 4 CAMPING EVENTS WITH A TOTAL OF 87 PARTICIPANTS. CONNECTING BIPOC INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES WITH PUBLIC LANDS IS A PRIMARY GOAL OF BLACKPACKERS. ED PATRICIA CAMERON ALSO PARTICIPATED IN TRAINING TO BECOME CERTIFIED AS A WILDERNESS FIRST RESPONDER, INCREASING THE SAFETY FOR PARTICIPANTS.


THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH THE COLORADO SPRINGS HEALTH FOUNDATION, BLACKPACKERS HOSTED SWIMMING LESSONS FOR APPROXIMATELY 30 MEMBERS OF AREA FAMILIES. BIPOC INDIVIDUALS HAVE HISTORICALLY BEEN EXCLUDED FROM SWIMMING POOLS AND LESSONS, AND AS A RESULT, HAVE HIGHER RATES OF DROWNING. REDUCING INEQUITIES IN OUTDOOR RECREATION, INCLUDING ADVERSE OUTCOMES, IS A KEY GOAL OF BLACKPACKERS.
