JAMILES HOUSE. THIS 21-YEAR-OLD WOMAN LOST HER PARENTS AND GRANDMOTHER IN A TRAGIC CAR ACCIDENT AND BECAME RESPONSIBLE FOR HER YOUNGER SIBLINGS AS WELL AS HER OWN FAMILY. SHE HAD TO QUIT HER JOB AND SPLIT HER TIME BETWEEN THE TWO HOUSEHOLDS, AND THE FAMILIES WERE IN DESPERATE NEED OF FOOD. HER YOUNGER SISTER, THEN 10, WAS APPROACHED BY TRAFFICKERS TO SELL HERSELF FOR FOOD. WE PROVIDED EMERGENCY FOOD TO THE FAMILY AND BEGAN TO BUILD THEM A HOME THAT WOULD BE SAFE, AND LARGE ENOUGH FOR BOTH FAMILIES TO LIVE TOGETHER SO SHE CAN TAKE CARE THEM. SHE IS NOW GOING TO COLLEGE TO STUDY SOCIAL WORK.
BUILT HOUSE FOR RAIMUNDA. RAIMUNDA IS 85 YEARS OLD AND IS A CANCER SURVIVOR. SHE WAS LIVING ON THE STREET, ABANDONED BY HER FAMILY. WE PROVIDED SAFE HOUSING AND SEED MONEY FOR HER TO OPEN HER OWN BUSINESS SELLING CLOTHING, AND SHE IS NOW SELF-SUSTAINING.
MINI COMMUNITY CENTER IN CORREGO DA VOLTA. THE MINI CENTER IS A SMALL COMMUNITY MEETING PLACE WITH SPACE TO HOUSE SEVERAL PROJECTS. IT IS A PROOF OF CONCEPT TO SHOW HOW INVESTMENT IN THE COMMUNITY OF CORREGO DA DA VOLTA CAN IMPROVE STUDENT SUCCESS, TEACH BUSINESS AND ENTREPRENEURIAL SKILLS, ENRICH THE COMMUNITY THROUGH SPORTS, ART, AND MUSIC CLASSES.
