IN AUGUST 2021, A 7.3 EARTHQUAKE STRUCK THE JEREMIE AREA. IN THE FOLLOWING MONTHS, JEREMIE RISING PROVIDED FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR MEDICINES, MOBILE MEDICAL CLINICS, FOOD AND WATER, AND TEMPORARY SHELTER MATERIALS.
PRINCIPAL "OTHER PROGRAM SERVICES" INCLUDE TUITION SUPPORT FOR APPROXIMATELY (70) K-12 KIDS (21,017), CONSTRUCTION OF NEW 3-ROOM SCHOOL IN CHIRAGUE (20,250), VARIOUS MEDICAL CARE (16,586), RENOVATIONS TO THE FOYERDES PETITES ORPHANAGE (9,330), CONSTRUCTION OF SMALL SHELTER HOMES (6,000), REPAIRS TO THE GEBEAU CHURCH (5,600), AND "CLEAN WATER" EQUIPMENT AND TRAINING (5,161).
EARLIER IN 2021, JEREMIE RISING PROVIDED FINANCIAL SUPPORT FOR HUNGER RELIEF EFFORTS ORGANIZED BY THE HAITIAN METHODIST CHURCH (EMH). HAITI'S FALTERING ECONOMY INCREASED UNEMPLOYMENT AT THE SAME TIME THAT FOOD PRICES WERE INCREASING. THIS GRANT AMOUNT INCLUDES THE ANNUAL FOOD BUDGET FOR THE GOOD SAMARITAN ELDER CARE FACILITY IN JEREMIE, HOME TO 15 RESIDENTS.
JEREMIE RISING PROVIDES FINANCIAL SUPPORT TO THE GEBEAU CLINIC, LOCATED JUST OUTSIDE OF JEREMIE. IT IS A MEDICAL/OPTHAMALOGICAL/DENTAL/TB FACILITY, AND THE ONLY CLINIC IN THE AREA. JEREMIE RISING'S SUPPORT BASICALLY PAYS STAFF SALARIES AND GENERATOR FUEL. WITHOUT SUCH SUPPORT, THE CLINIC WOULD HAVE TO CLOSE.
