OPERATION PROGRESS FORT WORTH EMPOWERS UNDERSERVED YOUTH TO BECOME EDUCATED, ETHICAL AND PRODUCTIVE ADULTS WHO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AND POSITIVELY CONTRIBUTE TO SOCIETY. TO DO THIS, WE ARE COMMITTED TO SUPPORTING PARTICIPATING SCHOLARS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THROUGH COLLEGE WITH OUR COMPREHENSIVE PROGRAM CALLED THE FIVE PILLARS OF SUCCESS.

Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

Part 3 - Line 4a

SCHOLARSHIP AND ACADEMIC SUPPORT: OPERATION PROGRESS FORT WORTH (OPFW) PROVIDED INDIVIDUALIZED ACADEMIC CASE MANAGEMENT TO EACH SCHOLAR. ACADEMIC PROGRAMMING FOCUSED ON TRANSFORMING SCHOLARS INTO KNOWLEDGEABLE AND CRITICAL THINKERS, ALLOWS THEM TO DEVELOP AND PERFECT EFFECTIVE STUDY STRATEGIES, REQUIRES THEM TO MINIMALLY ACHIEVE A 3.0 GPA, AND AIMS TO SHIFT THE SCHOLARS' MINDSET TO MAKE ACADEMICS A KEY PRIORITY. ADDITIONALLY, OPFW PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIP ASSISTANCE FOR SUCH SCHOLARS.

COMPREHENSIVE EXPANDED LEARNING: OUR PROGRAMS ARE ROOTED IN OUR FIVE PILLARS OF SUCCESS. THE FIVE PILLARS OF SUCCESS ARE ACADEMICS, LIFE SKILLS, HEALTH AND WELLNESS, SERVICE AND SAFETY, AND SUPPORT. THE GOAL OF THE FIVE PILLARS OF SUCCESS IS FOR THE SCHOLARS TO BUILD CHARACTER, SOCIAL COMPETENCY, LEADERSHIP SKILLS, AND EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE. THE EXPANDED LEARNING PROGRAMS PROVIDED FUNDAMENTAL EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES THAT SCHOLARS OTHERWISE WOULD NOT HAVE AND WILL INCLUDE ARTS, MUSIC, COPING SKILLS AND FITNESS.

MENTORSHIP: FORT WORTH POLICE OFFICERS SERVE AS MENTORS AND ENGAGE WITH SCHOLARS AT LEAST ONE TIME PER MONTH. ADDITIONALLY, OFFICERS PARTICIPATED IN MENTOR TRAINING ONE TIME PER MONTH. SUCH MENTORING AIDED IN PROVIDING SUPPORT AND SAFETY, AND BUILT TRUST IN THE POLICE-COMMUNITY RELATIONSHIP. THE SUPPORTIVE RELATIONSHIP OF MENTORS, PARENTS, STAFF, AND OTHER CARING ADULTS ARE ESSENTIAL IN THE BIOPSYCHOSOCIAL GROWTH OF YOUTH; MENTORING PROVIDES A FORMAL, STRUCTURED CARING RELATIONSHIP.
