THE LUCKY BIKES RECYCLERY: THE LUCKY BIKES RECYCLERY IS A 20-HOUR STEM-BASED BICYCLE EDUCATION COURSE DEVELOPED TO PROVIDE YOUTH (2ND-4TH GRADE) WITH THE BASIC UNDERSTANDING OF THE BICYCLE AS A SIMPLE MACHINE AND HOW IT WORKS. IN ADDITION TO THE 10 HOURS OF TECHNICAL TRAINING IN THE CLASSROOM, STUDENTS GET 10 HOURS OF RIDING AND BIKE SAFETY INSTRUCTION OUT ON THE TRAIL.


YOUTH@WORK: YOUTH@WORK IS A 3-MONTH PAID INTERNSHIP PROGRAM THAT ALLOWS YOUTH 14-20 YEARS OLD TO GAIN VALUABLE, ON-THE-JOB RETAIL/SERVICE TRAINING AT OUR SOCIAL ENTERPRISE BIKE SHOP, LUCKY BIKES RE-CYCLERY. THE PROGRAM SPECIFICALLY TARGETS AT RISK AND UNDERSERVED HIGH SCHOOL AGED KIDS WHO HAVE NO PRIOR WORK EXPERIENCE.


LEARN TO EARN: GEARED FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL AND HIGH SCHOOL AGED KIDS, THIS 5-DAY (10 HOUR) STEM-BASED COURSE (ALIGNED WITH COLORADO STATE STANDARDS) TEACHES PARTICIPANTS ABOUT THE BICYCLE AS A SIMPLE MACHINE HOW IT WORKS, HOW TO REPAIR IT AND HOW TO RIDE SAFELY. INSTRUCTORS PLACE AN EMPHASIS ON TEACHING VALUABLE LIFE SKILLS ALONG THE WAY. UPON COMPLETION OF THE MULTI-SESSION COURSE, GRADUATES RECEIVE THEIR OWN BIKE, A NEW HELMET, LOCK AND TOOL KIT. THERE WERE 42 PARTICIPANTS IN 2022.


RIDE PROGRAM: WE PROVIDE ADVENTURE-FILLED, DAYLONG AND AFTER SCHOOL MOUNTAIN BIKE OUTINGS FOR SMALL GROUPS OF YOUTH AGES 10 AND UP. TRIPS ARE LED BY OUR EXPERIENCED RIDE LEADERS WHO, WITH THE HELP OF SKILLED ADULT VOLUNTEERS, PROVIDE POSITIVE ENCOURAGEMENT THROUGHOUT THE CHALLENGING DAY ON THE TRAIL. KIDS LEARN BASIC MOUNTAIN BIKING SKILLS, BIKE SAFETY, AND RIDING TECHNIQUES. THERE WERE 508 PARTICIPANTS IN 2022.
