PATIENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE, THE FLAGSHIP PROGRAM OF THE LIMB PRESERVATION FOUNDATION, PROVIDES EMERGENCY RELIEF TO INDIVIDUALS AT RISK OF LIMB LOSS AS A RESULT OF TUMOR, TRAUMA, OR INFECTION. THE PATIENT ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE, A GROUP OF VOLUNTEERS TASKED WITH ALLOCATING THE FUNDS, PRIORITIZES FUNDING THAT WILL KEEP THE PATIENT IN THEIR HOME. OVER THE COURSE OF 2023, 67% OF OUR PATIENT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE FUNDS WERE DEDICATED TO KEEPING PEOPLE IN THEIR HOMES. FOCUSING ONLY ON HOUSING IN 2023, LPF MADE 93 MORTGAGE OR RENT PAYMENTS TOTALING OVER 77,000. IN ADDITION TO HOUSING, THIS PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES FUNDING FOR UTILITIES, MEDICAL TRANSPORTATION COSTS AND MEDICAL LODGING, INSURANCE AND MORE. ---------------- SEE SCHEDULE O FOR MORE DETAIL ------------------
THE LIMB PRESERVATION FOUNDATION OFFERS ONE-ON-ONE, PEER-TO-PEER SUPPORT TO THE COMMUNITY OF PATIENTS UNDERGOING LIMB TREATMENT DUE TO TUMOR, TRAUMA OR INFECTION. OUR PEER SUPPORT PROGRAM COMPLEMENTS AND ENHANCES MEDICAL CARE BY CREATING THE EMOTIONAL, SOCIAL, AND PRACTICAL ASSISTANCE NECESSARY FOR MANAGING A LIMB-RISK SITUATION AND MOVING TOWARD WELLNESS. THE LPF LIMB-RISK CARE PACKAGE PROGRAM PROVIDES PATIENTS RECOVERING FROM SERIOUS LIMB PROCEDURES WITH A BEAUTIFUL HANDMADE QUILT AS WELL AS A CARE BAG WITH BASIC CARE ITEMS. THE PURPOSE OF THIS PROGRAM IS TO LIFT THE SPIRITS OF RECOVERING PATIENTS EXPERIENCING EXTENDED PERIODS OF BEDREST OR RESTRICTED ACTIVITY AND TO HELP PATIENTS FEEL SUPPORTED AND LESS ALONE DURING A CHALLENGING TIME.
EDUCATION: THE LIMB PRESERVATION FOUNDATION HOSTS AN ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM THAT BRINGS TOGETHER NEARLY 200 PATIENTS, CAREGIVERS, SURGEONS, PHYSICIANS, PHYSICAL THERAPISTS, PROSTHETISTS, WOUND CARE EXPERTS AND ALL MEMBERS OF THE CARE TEAM WHO TREAT PATIENTS WITH COMPLEX ORTHOPEDIC CONDITIONS. ALONG WITH EDUCATION, RESOURCES AND PRACTICAL TIPS, THE EVENT FACILITATES A SETTING FOR COMMUNITY MEMBERS TO NETWORK AND CONNECT. WE WERE ABLE TO PROVIDE FINANCIAL SUBSIDIES FOR APPROXIMATELY 20 INDIVIDUALS IN THE LIMB COMMUNITY TO ATTEND OUR SYMPOSIUM IN 2023.
