THE MISSION AND THE GOAL OF THE NATIONAL LATINO BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ASSOCIATION IS TO INFLUENCE NATIONAL BEHAVIORAL HEALTH POLICY, ELIMINATE DISPARITIES IN FUNDING AND ACCESS TO SERVICES, AND IMPROVE QUALITY OF SERVICES FOR LATIONO POPULATIONS.

THE SUBSTANCE ABUSE AND MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION GRANT FUNDS THE ORGANIZATION'S ADDICTION TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTER NETWORK (ATTC), PREVENTIONAL TECHNOLOGY TRANSFER CENTER (PTTC), AND STRATEGIC PREVENTION FRAMEWORK (SPF) PROJECTS. ATTC SERVES INDIVIDUALS AND ORGANIZATION'S WHO PROVIDE BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SERVICES TO HISPANIC AND LATINO POPULATIONS THROUGHOUT THE U.S. THE PROJECT PROVIDES TRAINING AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE TO A WIDE RANGE OF PUBLIC, NONPROFIT AND PRIVATE ORGANIZATIONS IN CULTURALLY AND LINGUISTICALLY APPROPRIATE PRACTICES AND PROGRAMS EFFECTIVE IN SERVING LATINO AND HISPANIC POPULATIONS INCLUDING EVIDENCE BASED, COMMUNITY DEFINED EVIDENCE, AND OTHER BEST OR EMERGING PRACTICES. PTTC FOCUSES ON 1)DEVELOPING AND DISSEMINATING TOOLS AND STRATEGIES NEEDED TO IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION EFFORTS; 2) PROVIDING INTENSIVE TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE AND LEARNING RESOURCES TO PREVENTION PROFESSIONALS IN ORDER TO IMPROVE THEIR UNDERSTANDING OF PREVENTION SCIENCE, HOW TO USE EPIDEMILOGICAL DATA TO GUIDE PREVENTION PLANNING, AND SELECTION AND IMPLEMENTATION OF EVIDENCE-BASED AND PROMISING PREVENTION PRACTICES; AND 3) DEVELOPING TOOLS AND RESOURCES TO ENGAGE THE NEXT GENERATION OF PREVENTION PROFESSIONALS. SPF FUNDING ALLOWS NLBHA TO EXPAND WORK WITH ORGANIZATIONS IN NORTHERN SANTA FE AND SOUTHERN RIO ARRIBA COUNTIES IN NORTHERN NEW MEXICO IN THE AREA OF STRATEGIC SUBSTANCE ABUSE PREVENTION. THE NLBHA SPF TEAM IS WORKING TO IMPLEMENT AN EVIDENCED-BASED (AND CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE) PREVENTION PROGRAM FOR YOUTH OF MIDDLE AND HIGH SCHOOL AGE BY COMBINING COMMUNITY-BASED AND YOUTH-GUIDED ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES.


SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM - PROVIDES SCHOLARSHIPS TO INDIVIDUALS PURSUING A FOUR YEAR DEGREE AT A NEW MEXICO HIGHER EDUCATION INSTITUTION IN THE AREA OF MENTAL/BEHAVIORAL HEALTH.


BEHAVIORAL HEALTH INTERPRETER TRAINING PROGRAM - PROVIDES INTENSIVE TRAINING TO BILINGUAL INDIVIDUALS TO IMPROVE THEIR LINGUISTIC SKILLS TO INTERPRET OR WHO HAVE AN INTEREST IN BECOMING A TRAINED INTERPRETER IN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SETTINGS. THE PROGRAM ALSO PROVIDES TRAINING FOR MONOLINGUAL ENGLISH SPEAKING MENTAL HEALTH SERVICE PROVIDERS ON HOW TO SUCCESSFULLY WORK WITH A MENTAL HEALTH INTERPRETER IN BEHAVIORAL HEALTH SETTINGS.
