COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE PROVIDES ANIMAL SHELTERING AND ADOPTION SERVICE IN THE CITY OF GLENWOOD SPRINGS AND GARFIELD COUNTY, COLORADO. THE SHELTER OPERATES UNDER THE TENETS OF SOCIALLY CONSCIOUS SHELTERING AND PROVIDES CARE FOR STRAY PETS, OWNER RELINQUISHED ANIMALS, AND HOMELESS SHELTER PETS FROM COLORADO AND BEYOND. IN 2022, COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE PROVIDED HOUSING TO 589 DOGS, CATS AND EXOTIC PETS WITH 427 ADOPTED INTO NEW HOMES AND 120 LOST PETS REUNITED WITH THEIR OWNERS. THE SHELTER PROVIDES KENNEL SPACE FOR UP TO 40 DOGS, 50 CATS, AND VARIOUS OTHERS (BUNNIES, GUINEA PIGS, REPTILES, ETC.). EVERY ANIMAL THAT IS HOUSED AT THE SHELTER RECEIVES NUTRITION, MEDICAL AND BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENTS, VACCINES, AND NEEDED VETERINARY CARE INCLUDING SPAY/NEUTER PROCEDURES BEFORE ADOPTION. DAILY ENRICHMENT (EX: DOG WALKS, PUZZLES, CAT PLAYTIME AND TLC) IS PROVIDED TO EVERY SHELTER RESIDENT PET DURING THEIR TIME AT THE SHELTER. ALL PETS ADOPTED FROM COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE ARE WELCOMED BACK INTO OUR CARE SHOULD THE NEED ARISE.
COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE PROVIDES COMPREHENSIVE VETERINARY AND BEHAVIOR CARE TO EVERY SHELTER PET. THE SHELTER'S FULL-TIME VETERINARY STAFF AND CONTRACT VETERINARIAN, KATE OWENS DVM, ENSURE THAT ALL ANIMALS PLACED FOR ADOPTION RECEIVE A COMPLETE VETERINARY EXAM, VACCINES, SPAY/NEUTER SURGERY, MEDICATIONS, AND DENTAL CARE. IN 2022, 278 PETS WERE SPAYED OR NEUTERED AT THE SHELTER. COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE'S SPECIALIZED ANIMAL CARE TEAMS PROVIDE BEHAVIOR ASSESSMENTS, BEHAVIOR MODIFICATION AND TRAINING, AND ENRICHMENT ACTIVITIES FOR EVERY RESIDENT PET. FOR EXAMPLE, DOGS RECEIVE DAILY TIME OUTSIDE, WALKS, TREAT PUZZLES, KONGS, AND TIME IN PLAYGROUPS AS APPROPRIATE. CATS IN OUR CARE RECEIVE CUSTOMIZED HOUSING, ENRICHMENT TOYS AND ACTIVITIES, AND PREFERRED TREATS AND MEALS.
COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE WORKS TO SUPPORT SUCCESSFUL PET OWNERSHIP IN OUR COMMUNITY AND DECREASE THE NUMBER OF PETS ARRIVING AT THE SHELTER. THE SHELTER'S COMMUNITY PROGRAMS PROVIDE ASSISTANCE WITH PET FOOD, VETERINARY EXPENSES, AND PET IDENTIFICATION. IN 2022, COLORADO ANIMAL RESCUE'S COMMUNITY PET FOOD BANK PROVIDED 9117 LBS. OF DRY FOOD AND 950 CANS TO PET OWNERS IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE, THE DOVE FUND PROVIDED 81 VOUCHERS FOR $50 OFF OF SPAY/NEUTER PROCEDURES AT LOCAL VETS, AND OUR FREE PET ID TAG PROGRAM PROVIDED 147 FREE PET IDENTIFICATION TAGS MAILED TO HOME ADDRESSES.
