DURING THE YEAR 2020, THE MINING HISTORY ASSOCIATION ENGAGED IN DIFFERENT ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATED WITH THE HISTORY OF MINING AND METALLURGY, THE PRESERVATION OF MINE AND MINERAL PROCESSING SITES, AND RESEARCH ON THE MINING PAST, PARTICULARLY THE AMERICAN MINING PAST. TO THIS END, IT PUBLISHED ITS SCHOLARLY, PEER-REVIEWED MINING HISTORY JOURNAL, WHICH HELD BOTH ARTICLES AND BOOK REVIEWS. THE ASSOCIATION ALSO PUBLISHED QUARTERLY NEWSLETTERS OF ITS ACTIVITIES. OWING TO COVID-19, HOWEVER, IN THE SPRING, THE OFFICERS AND COUNCIL MEMBERS VOTED TO CANCEL THE ANNUAL CONFERENCE, SCHEDULED FOR JUNE 2020, AT ELKO, NEVADA. THE ASSOCIATION THEN MADE PREPARATIONS TO HOLD ITS 2021 CONFERENCE IN ELKO AND SHIFT THE 2021 CONFERENCE SCHEDULED TO MEET IN BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA, TO 2022. THE MINING HISTORY ASSOCIATION AWARDED SEVERAL RESEARCH FELLOWSHIPS, BUT REDUCED AND DID NOT AWARD MOST OTHER PRIZES FOR WORK IN MINING HISTORY AND PRESERVATION.
