PATIENT SERVICES - IN 2022 WE PROVIDED A VARIETY OF PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO PEOPLE LIVING WITH EPILEPSY AND THEIR FAMILIES, INCLUDING SUPPORT GROUPS THROUGHOUT THE STATE, A TOLL-FREE INFORMATION AND REFERRAL LINE, TOOLKITS FOR NEWLY DIAGNOSED PATIENTS, AND DIRECT FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE TO INDIVIDUALS AND FAMILIES IN CRISIS. WE REACHED OVER 300 SPANISH-SPEAKING CLIENTS THROUGH OUR HISPANIC OUTREACH PROGRAM, ENGAGED HUNDREDS OF ATTENDEES IN EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON EPILEPSY-RELATED TOPICS, HELD VIRTUAL AND IN-PERSON CAMPS FOR KIDS, TEENS, AND YOUNG ADULTS WITH EPILEPSY, OFFERED SPECIALIZED MENTAL HEALTH SERVICES, AND PASSED LEGISLATION IN COLORADO THAT STREAMLINES THE STEP THERAPY EXEMPTION PROCESS IN THE PRIVATE INSURANCE MARKET.
PROFESSIONAL EDUCATION - IN 2022 WE PROVIDED EDUCATION AND SEIZURE FIRST AID TRAINING TO THE MEDICAL COMMUNITY AND HEALTHCARE PROVIDERS, INCLUDING, BUT NOT LIMITED TO, FIRST RESPONDERS, SCHOOL NURSES AND SCHOOL PERSONNEL, AND NEUROLOGY OFFICES. WE ALSO OFFERED AN ACCREDITED CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION CONFERENCE FOR HEALTHCARE PROFESSIONALS FOCUSED ON EPILEPSY- SPECIFIC TOPICS.
PUBLIC HEALTH - IN 2022 WE FORMALLY EXPANDED OUR SERVICE AREA TO INCLUDE THE STATE OF WYOMING, OFFERING PROGRAMS AND SERVICES TO THE NEARLY 6,000 PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY IN THE STATE. BETWEEN COLORADO AND WYOMING, THERE WERE MORE THAN 1200 REGISTRANTS FOR OUR SEIZURE RECOGNITION AND FIRST AID TRAININGS, INCLUDING FAMILIES IMPACTED BY EPILEPSY, EMPLOYERS, FIRST RESPONDERS, SCHOOL NURSES, SCHOOL PERSONNEL, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC. WE ENGAGED IN ONGOING EFFORTS TO PROTECT THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WITH EPILEPSY AND PROMOTE PUBLIC POLICIES THAT BENEFIT PEOPLE WITH CHRONIC ILLNESS SUCH AS ACCESS TO MEDICATION AND SPECIALTY HEALTHCARE SERVICES, PATIENT SAFETY AND MENTAL HEALTH. OUR PUBLIC POLICY AGENDA IS PROMOTED THROUGH GRASSROOTS EFFORTS AND REGULAR COMMUNICATION WITH POLICY MAKERS.
