INCLUDES: GENERAL OPERATING EXPENSE SUPPORT FOR SAKALA HAITI EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM SUPPORT INCLUDING PAYING TUITION AND FEES FOR SAKALA HAITI BENEFICIARIES TO GO TO SCHOOL AND THE AFTER-SCHOOL TUTORING AND ACTIVITIES PROGRAMS DAILY MEAL PROGRAM SPORTS PROGRAM CHESS PROGRAM COMMUNITY GARDENING RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PILOT PROGRAM AND STRESS TRAUMA RELIEF PROGRAMS SUCH AS YOGA AND MEDITATION. SAKALA HAS PERFORMED THESE SERVICES ON A DAILY OR NEAR-DAILY BASIS IN 2021 DESPITE TIMES OF UNPRECEDENTED POLITICAL INSTABILITY AND VIOLENCE IN HAITI AND THE ONGOING COVID-19 PANDEMIC. IN 2021 THE COMMUNITY CENTER BECAME AN EVEN MORE CRUCIAL REFUGE FOR THE CHILDREN AND COMMUNITY OF CITÉ SOLEIL THAT HAVE BEEN ESPECIALLY IMPACTED AND TRAUMATIZED BY THE EVENTS IN HAITI.
INCLUDES ART CREATED FROM RECYCLED TRASH RECYCLING OF PLASTIC BOTTLES AND ALUMINUM CANS COMPOSTING TREE PLANTING AND OTHER ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES MEANT TO ALSO CREATE JOBS.
IN AUGUST 2021 A STRONG EARTHQUAKE HIT SOUTHERN HAITI. THE SAKALA COMMUNITY CENTER WAS TOO FAR AWAY TO BE HARMED BUT SENT FUNDS FOR FOOD RELIEF IN THE IMMEDIATE AFTERMATH OF THE DISASTER AND HAS BEGUN AN AGRICULTURAL JOBS PILOT PROGRAM IN THE SOUTHERN CITY OF JEREMIE AS WELL.
