HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE ASSOCIATION WAS FORMED TO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE REALITIES OF THE HOLOCAUST INCLUDING THE EXPERIENCE OF THE VICTIMS. IT SHALL ALSO EDUCATE THE PUBLIC ABOUT THE DANGERS OF MODERN ANTI-SEMITISM AND INSPIRE PEOPLE TO STAND IN SOLIDARITY AGAINST PERSECUTION, PREJUDICE, AND INDIFFERENCE.

FOR 2022, THE PRIMARY FOCUS OF THE HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE ASSOCIATION (HRA18) WAS EDUCATION, HEALING, AND RECONCILIATION REGARDING THE COMPLEX ISSUES OF THE HOLOCAUST. ITS FLAGSHIP PROJECT CONTINUES TO BE THE HOLOCAUST GARDEN OF HOPE, AN OPEN-AIR MUSEUM LOCATED ON THE SHORES OF LAKE HOUSTON IN KINGWOOD, TEXAS. A GROUND-BREAKING CEREMONY WAS HELD IN NOVEMBER 2022 CELEBRATING THE COMPLETION OF THE DESIGN AND BEGINNING OF PHASE I CONSTRUCTION. INFLUENTIAL BUSINESS LEADERS, MAYOR PRO-TEM, POLISH AND ISRAELI CONSULS, HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS, NAZI DESCENDANTS AND THE PRESS ATTENDED THIS EVENT WHICH MADE FRONT PAGE NEWS. THE EVENT CLOSED WITH A CELEBRATION OF AN ISRAELI DANCE TROUPE. THIS JEWISH, WOMAN-LED HOLOCAUST ORGANIZATION IS THE EPITOME OF THE MANY DIVERSITY, EQUITY AND INCLUSION REQUIREMENTS. THE UPSTANDER STONE PROJECT, AN EDUCATIONAL STONE-PAINTING PROJECT DESIGNED TO COMMEMORATE THE 1.5 MILLION CHILDREN WHO PERISHED DURING THE HOLOCAUST, EXPANDED GEOGRAPHICALLY IN 2022. OVER TEN THOUSAND STUDENTS AND INDIVIDUALS WERE IMPACTED AS THEY PARTICIPATED VIA LOCAL SCHOOL DISTRICTS ACROSS THE HOUSTON AREA, CHURCH GROUPS, SYNOGOGUES, SMALL GROUPS AND NURSING HOMES.


SUCCESSFUL MARCHES OF REMEMBRANCE WERE HELD IN KINGWOOD AND IN DALLAS. HOSTED BY CREEKWOOD MIDDLE SCHOOL IN KINGWOOD, HUNDREDS OF STUDENTS, EDUCATORS, FAMILIES, HOLOCAUST SURVIVORS AND LOCAL DIGNITARIES JOINED REMORSEFUL NAZI DESCENDANTS IN TELLING THEIR STORIES FOR THE PURPOSE OF HEALING, RECONCILIATION, AND HOPE FOR THE FUTURE. HRA18 LOCAL LEADERS FLEW TO ISRAEL TO SPEAK IN THE MARCH OF THE NATIONS IN MAY.


DURING 2022, FIVE UNIVERSITY EDUCATION SCHOLARSHIPS WERE AWARDED TO STUDENTS TO ENCOURAGE AND FUTHER THEIR COLLEGE EDUCATION.


TWO HIGH-PROFILE CULTURAL AND EDUCATIONAL FUNDRAISERS WERE HELD IN 2022, INCLUDING A SPECIAL DINNER THEATER PRESENTATION CELEBRATING A POLISH EDUCATOR FOR INTERNATIONAL HOLOCAUST REMEMBRANCE DAY. THE FIRST HRA18 "EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION" AWARD WAS ISSUED DURING THE DINNER HONORING TEXAS A&M PROFESSOR, DR. CHERYL CRAIG. SECONDLY, A "BEAUTY FOR ASHES" LUNCHEON WITH EMMY AWARD AND HOLOCAUST SURVIVOR SPEAKER AND GOV'T OFFICIALS IN ATTENDANCE WAS HOSTED IN APRIL, FOCUSED ON RAISING PUBLIC AWARENESS OF THE MISSION AND VISION OF HRA18.
