Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
AMOS MADE A SINGLE GRANT DURING THE PAST YEAR TO OUTFIT THE 62-BED NHOWE MISSION HOSPITAL WITH A SOLAR ELECTRIC SYSTEM. THIS HOSPITAL SERVES ABOUT 60,000 PATIENTS PER YEAR BUT ELECTRIC POWER FROM THE GOVERNMENT-OWNED UTILITY SYSTEM IS AT BEST SPORADIC. THE NEW SOLAR SYSTEM IS INTENDED TO PROVIDE 24-HOUR ELECTRIC SERVICE. WITHOUT IT, OUTAGES SOMETIMES LAST NEARLY A WEEK AND WHILE THE HOSPITAL HAS A BACK-UP GENERATOR IT IS FUELED WITH PROHIBITIVELY EXPENSIVE DIESEL. THE SOLAR SYSTEM WILL DISPLACE THAT FOSSIL FUEL AS WELL AS THAT USED BY THE STATE-OWNED UTILITY IN PROVIDING SERVICE TO THE AREA. WE EXPECT FURTHER GRANTS TO BE NEEDED FOR THE NHOWE SYSTEM IN THE COMING FISCAL YEAR.
