MILWAUKEE WATER COMMONS INC. IS A CROSS-CITY NETWORK THAT FOSTERS CONNECTION, COLLABORATION, AND BROAD COMMUNITY LEADERSHIP ON BEHALF OF OUR COMMON WATERS. THE ORGANIZATION PROMOTES STEWARDSHIP OF EQUITABLE ACCESS TO AND SHARED DECISION-MAKING FOR OUR COMMON WATERS. THE ORGANIZATION FOCUSES ON SIX INITIATIVES: WATER QUALITY, DRINKING WATER, ARTS AND CULTURE, BLUE GREEN JOBS, EDUCATION AND RECREATION, AND GREEN INITIATIVE.

THE MKE EJ ROUND TABLE HELD A PRESS CONFERENCE CELEBRATING THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FIRST PEOPLE OF COLOR SUMMIT ON ENVIRONMENTAL JUSTICE. WE LAUNCHED BEACH AMBASSADORS PILOT PROGRAM, ENGAGING OVER 400 BEACH GOERS IN WATER-SAFETY CONVERSATIONS. IN-PERSON WATER SCHOOL FOCUSED ON WATER CITY AGENDA ED & REC INITIATIVE, TIED TO THE MKE AREA OF CONCERN RESTORATION EFFORTS. WE JOINED MKE AOC LEADERSHIP, ADVOCATING FOR COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT, CENTERING JUSTICE AND EQUITY IN HISTORIC CLEAN UP. WE WERE INVITED TO PROVIDE WRITTEN AND IN-PERSON VIRTUAL TESTIMONY TO HOUSE TRANSPORTATION AND INFRASTRUCTURE SUBCOMMITTEE ON WATER RESOURCES, BRINGING EJ LENS TO FUNDING DECISIONS BEING CONSIDERED. WE PRESENTED TO REGIONAL EPA TRAININGS ON SAFE DRINKING WATER. WE WERE INVITED BY MKE WATER WORKS TO THE REGIONAL EPA ROUNDTABLE LISTENING SESSION. WE MET WITH THE EPA ADMINISTRATOR AND ASSISTANT ADMINISTRATOR FOR WATER QUALITY TO DISCUSS POTENTIAL IMPLICATIONS OF FEDERAL FUNDING ON MKE. WE PROVIDED WRITTEN COMMENTS ON THE STATE OF WISCONSIN SAFE DRINKING WATER LOAN PROGRAM INTENDED USE PLAN. WE HELD CONVERSATIONS WITH DNR DECISION-MAKERS ON REVISING IUP TO DELIVER MORE EQUITABLE OUTCOMES. THE MKE WATER EQUITY TASK FORCE LEAD VIRTUAL 2-DAY WORKSHOP WITH 80 STAKEHOLDERS, INTRODUCING ROADMAP RECOMMENDATIONS TO BUILDING AN EQUITABLE WATER SECTOR AND WORKFORCE. THE BRANCH OUT MKE CAMPAIGN FOCUSED ON SHERMAN PARK PARTNERSHIPS. LEAD ON THREE COLE DRINKING WATER COMMITTEES EDUCATION, WORKFORCE AND POLICY. WE WORKED WITH HEALING OUR WATERS AS CO-STATE LEADS, WITH REGIONAL AND NATIONAL PARTNERS AND AT BOD.
