MAINTAIN AND ENHANCE THE HEALTH, DIVERSITY, AND BEAUTY OF SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN'S NATURAL AND AGRICULTURAL LANDSCAPE THROUGH PERMANENT LAND PROTECTION AND RESTORATION, AND IMPROVE PEOPLE'S LIVES BY CONNECTING THEM TO THE LAND AND TO EACH OTHER.

LAND CONSERVATION - SINCE 2000 DRIFTLESS AREA LAND CONSERVANCY HAS PROTECTED OVER 7,500 ACRES OF FARMS, FORESTS, PRAIRIES, AND WETLANDS. DURING 2021 THE CONSERVANCY PROTECTED OVER 300 ACRES OF WOODLANDS, PRAIRIE, PASTURE, AND FARMLAND. WE ALSO PLANTED AND RESTORED HUNDREDS OF ACRES OF WETLANDS, PRAIRIE AND OAK SAVANNA. WE CONTINUE TO LEAD DEVELOPMENT OF THE DRIFTLESS TRAIL, FACILITATE THE LOWERY CREEK WATERSHED INITIATIVE, AND THE SOUTHERN DRIFTLESS GRASSLANDS PARTNERSHIP.
ADVOCACY - THE CONSERVANCY'S ADVOCACY EFFORTS FOCUS ON POLICIES AND PROGRAMS THAT SUPPORT THE LONG-TERM PROTECTION OF NATURAL, HISTORICAL, AND CULTURE RESOURCES OF SOUTHWEST WISCONSIN'S DRIFTLESS AREA. IN 2021, WE CONTINUED OUR EFFORTS TO COORDINATE COMMUNITY LEADERS AND CITIZENS IN OPPOSITION TO A MASSIVE AND UNNEEDED TRANSMISSION LINE PROJECT THAT, IF CONSTRUCTED, WOULD DISRUPT AND DESTROY HABITAT IN OUR SERVICE AREA. WE HAVE ALSO BEEN INVOLVED IN ADVOCATING FOR FUNDING OF LAND CONSERVATION THROUGH THE KNOWLES NELSON STEWARDSHIP PROGRAM.
OUTREACH AND EDUCATION - THE CONSERVANCY'S COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT AND OUTREACH PROGRAMS AIM TO CONNECT PEOPLE TO THE LAND AND TO ONE ANOTHER. WE AIM TO EDUCATE AND INSPIRE CURRENT AND FUTURE GENERATIONS TO PROTECT AND STEWARD OUR UNIQUE DRIFTLESS LANDSCAPE. DURING 2021 WE ORGANIZED A SERIES OF FIELD TRIPS, SPECIAL EVENTS, AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS THAT ENGAGED OVER 1,000 INDIVIDUALS.
