NORTH CAROLINA HARM REDUCTION COALITION NCHRC IS A STATEWIDE GRASSROOTS ORGANIZATION DEDICATED TO THE IMPLEMENTATION OF HARM REDUCTION INTERVENTIONS, PUBLIC HEALTH STRATEGIES, DRUG POLICY TRANSFORMATION, AND JUSTICE REFORM IN NORTH CAROLINA AND THROUGHOUT THE AMERICAN SOUTH.
Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
IN 2022, NCSU CONTINUED ITS EXPLOSIVE GROWTH. WE PROVIDED ESSENTIAL SAFER DRUG CONSUMPTION SUPPLIES AND SERVICES TO PEOPLE WHO USE DRUGS (PWUD) IN GREENSBORO AS THE INCREASINGLY TOXIC ILLICIT DRUG SUPPLY PROLIFERATED MORBIDITY AND MORTALITY RISK. IN TANDEM, OUR DRUG CHECKING PROGRAM GREW THROUGHOUT THE YEAR WITH MORE AND MORE PARTICIPANTS ACCESSING THIS SERVICE. FURTHERMORE, WE RECEIVED FUNDS TO SUPPORT EXPANSION OF OUR SERVICES IN DEVELOPMENT OF A COMPREHENSIVE HEALTH HUB FOR PWUD; ONE SUCH SERVICE BEING THE PROVISION OF LOW THRESHOLD BUPRENORPHINE THROUGH A PARTNERSHIP WITH DUKE UNIVERSITY. THIS PROGRAM IS BLOSSOMING INTO AN ONGOING COMPASSIONATE CARE TRAINING CURRICULUM FOR RESIDENTS OF THE DUKE SCHOOL OF MEDICINE. NCSU WAS ALSO GRANTED FUNDS TO SUPPORT TRANSITION OF ITS ROUTINE DATA COLLECTION SYSTEMS TO A POINT IN TIME SURVEY. THIS YIELDED MORE ACCURATE INFORMATION ABOUT PROGRAM PARTICIPANTS, AND DECREASED DATA COLLECTION BURDEN ON STAFF. WE WERE INVITED TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL TO THE NATIONAL INSTITUTES OF HEALTH (NIH) TO SUPPORT OUR NARCOFEMINISM STORYSHARE PROJECT IN PARTNERSHIP WITH THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA AT GREENSBORO (UNCG); FUNDING DECISION IS CURRENTLY PENDING. WE EXPANDED OUR HEALTH HUB WORKER PROGRAM TO INCLUDE MORE COMMUNITY MEMBERS AND ADDITIONAL LOW THRESHOLD EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES. NCSU OFFERED A MULTITUDE OF TRAININGS COVERING A VARIETY OF HARM REDUCTION, AND GENERAL PUBLIC HEALTH TOPICS. LASTLY, 2022 SAW CONTINUED STRENGTHENING OF OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH STATE HEALTH ORGANIZATIONS, AS WE WORKED ON MULTIPLE STATE-FUNDED PROJECTS AROUND SERVICE PROVISION AND RACE EQUITY.
