Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE DOUG PENSINGER PHOTOGRAPHY FUND (DPPF) SUPPORTS EMERGING SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHERS BY CREATING A COMMUNITY THAT DEVELOPS THEIR SKILL AND VISION. THROUGH AN ANNUAL OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS, PHOTOGRAPHERS ARE CHOSEN FOR GRANTS AND MENTORSHIP OPPORTUNITIES. IN 2021 THE DPPF SUPPORTED EIGHT YOUNG SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHERS WITH GRANTS FOR CAREER DEVELOPMENT. THERE WAS A FREE OPEN CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS, AND THE RECIPIENTS REPRESENTED THE TOP 3% OF THE COMPETITIVE APPLICATION FIELD. THE DPPF PROMOTED THE ACCEPTANCE OF ENTRIES FOR ITS SECOND ANNUAL GRANTS PROGRAM WITH EMAIL RECRUITMENT AND WEB/SOCIAL MEDIA PROMOTION. INDUSTRY LEADERS REPRESENTING MAJOR SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY WIRE SERVICES AND PUBLICATIONS PROVIDED THE BASIS OF THE NETWORK FOR SPREADING THE WORD.
THREE TOP RECIPIENTS OF 2021 GRANTS ALSO RECEIVED YEAR-LONG MENTORSHIPS WITH THREE VOLUNTEER MEMBERS OF THE DPPF'S ADVISORY BOARD. THE 2020-2021 MENTORSHIPS ENDED IN SEPTEMBER 2021, AND THE 2021-2022 MENTORSHIPS BEGAN IN OCTOBER. MENTORS AND MENTEES COLLABORATE TO FORM A PERSONALIZED PLAN FOR THE MENTEES. THIS PLAN INCLUDES BUT IS NOT LIMITED TO: DEVELOPMENT OF A PERSONALIZED PHOTO PROJECT OR PHOTO STORY; STRUCTURING A MORE EFFICIENT WORK FLOW; PERFECTING PORTFOLIO, WEBSITE AND RESUME; NETWORKING AND INTRODUCTIONS TO OTHER ESTABLISHED PROFESSIONALS ON THE DPPF ADVISORY BOARD; INSTRUCTION ON EQUIPMENT OR TECHNICAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SKILLS; ASSISTANCE WITH THE ENTREPRENEURIAL ASPECTS OF THE INDUSTRY; ADVICE ON REAL WORK EXPERIENCE: ASSISTING JOBS, CREDENTIALS, AND LIVE EVENT COVERAGE.
COMMUNITY IS A CORE VALUE OF THE DPPF. ALTHOUGH THE PLANNED 2021 SPORTS PHOTOGRAPHY GATHERING WAS NOT HELD IN PERSON DUE TO THE RISING THREAT OF THE COVID-19 DELTA VARIANT, OUR ADVISORY BOARD PROFESSIONALS CONNECTED WITH THE 2020 AND 2021 GRANTEES VIRTUALLY ON SEPTEMBER 25, 2021. THE DAY'S OFFERINGS INCLUDED A GENERAL SESSION PANEL AND Q&A, BREAKOUT SESSIONS, AND A PRESENTATION BY THE GETTY SPORT TOKYO OLYMPICS TEAM.
