EAT.LEARN.PLAY. IS WORKING TO TRANSFORM THE PUBLIC SCHOOL EXPERIENCE FOR A GENERATION OF OAKLAND STUDENTS. TOGETHER WITH OUR COMMUNITY, OUR PARTNERS, AND OUR DONORS, WE PROVIDE RESOURCES, SUPPORT AND EXPERIENCES TO KIDS AND SCHOOLS THAT ALLOW THEM THE CHANGE TO REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AT SCHOOL, AT HOME AND IN THEIR COMMUNITY. DURING 2023, ELP ACHIEVED ITS MISSION THROUGH GRANTS AND PROGRAMS THAT SERVE OAKLAND YOUTH IN THE AREAS OF NUTRITION, LITERACY, AND PLAY. THROUGH OUR GRANTS ELP PROVIDED 2,000,000 NUTRITIOUS MEALS TO FOOD-INSECURE CHILDREN, DISTRIBUTED OVER 150,000 CHILDRENS BOOKS, AND MAJOR RENOVATIONS OF 6 SCHOOLYARDS IN THE OAKLAND UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT.OTHER ACHEIVEMENTS INCLUDE FUNDING TO SUPPORT THE OUSD'S CENTRAL KITCHEN WHICH PREPARES FOOD FOR ALL SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT; $1.5 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR HIGH-DOSAGE LITERACY TUTORNG FOR 584 STUDENTS AT 18 ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS; $2.3 MILLION IN FUNDING FOR ELEMENTARY SCHOOLYARDS RENNOVATIONS AND MIDDLE SCHOOL SPORTS PROGRAMMING.
DURING 2023, WITHIN THE OAKLAND UNIFIED SCHOOL DISTRICT, IN KIDS' HOMES AND IN OUR COMMUNITY, WE SUPPORTED CHILDREN'S WELL-BEING THROUGH ACCESS TO NUTRITIOUS MEALS, QUALITY READING MATERIALS AND OPPORTUNITIES TO PLAY AND BE ACTIVE. ELP SIGNIFICANTLY EXPANDED ITS DIRECT PROGRAMS THAT DIRECTLY BENEFIT THE LOW-INCOME CHILDREN AND FAMILIES OF OAKLAND. THROUGH OUR MOBILE RESOURCE CENTER, THE EAT. LEARN. PLAY. BUS, WE HOSTED 30 DISTRIBUTION EVENTS WHERE WE DISTRIBUTED 15,000 NUTRITIOUS MEALS, 20,000 LBS OF GROCERIES THROUGH AND PRODUCE, AND 40,000 NEW BOOKS. ADDITIONALLY, WE BUILT 75 OF OUR LITTLE TOWN LIBRARY BOOK-SHARING UNITS, WHICH, ALONGSIDE COMMUNITY PARTNERS, DISTRIBUTED OVER 150,000 CULTURALLY APPROPRIATE BOOKS. TOGETHER WITH SPONSORS AND COMMUNITY PARTNERS, EAT. LEARN.PLAY., CELEBRATED THE SPIRIT OF OAKLAND BY BRINGING JOY, GIFTS, RESOURCES, AND UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCES TO KIDS - FROM A KID'S FUN RUN WHERE 800 STUDENTS PARTICIPATED TO SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER WITH OUR ANNUAL CHRISTMAS WITH THE CURRY'S EVENT, WHICH LAST YEAR PROVIDED OVER 500 OAKLAND STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES GIFTS AND RESOURCES TOTALING MORE THAN $500,000.
