IN 2021 SUNNY SIDE DEVELOPMENT TOOK ON A NEW PROJECT CALLED EDGERTON RETIREMENT APARTMENTS (ERA). WE WERE APPROACHED BY ERA'S LONG TIME PROPERTY MANAGER, BROIHAHN MANAGEMENT AND CONSULTANTING TO HELP THEM PROVIDE NEEDED UPDATES TO THE 24-UNIT APARTMENT FOR SENIORS AND THOSE WITH DISABILITIES. WE ACCEPTED THE PROJECT AND SIGNED AN MOU WITH ERA'S BOARD. FROM THERE WE COMMISSIONED SEVERAL PREDEVELOPMENT STUDIES AND APPLIED FOR FUNDING FROM THE FHLBANK CHICAGO AND ROCK COUNTY. THE APPLICATIONS WERE SUCCESSFUL AND CONSTRUCTION IS SLATED TO BEGIN IN MID-2022. SSD ALSO SIGNED AN MOU WITH THE STOUGHTON HOUSING AUTHORITY TO REHABILITATE THEIR 92-UNIT GREENSPIRE PROPERTY. THIS PROJECT IS STILL IN ITS EARLY STAGES BUT A 'RENT COMPARABILITY STUDY' HAS BEEN ORDERED AND DEVELOPMENT WORK IS PLANNED TO CONTINUE THROUGH 2022 AND 2023. FINALLY, IN 2021 SSD APPLIED FOR AND RECEIVED NOTICE OF AWARD FOR $50,000 FROM DANE COUNTY VIA THE AMERICAN RESCUE PLAN, FOR OUR SOLAR GRANTS INITIATIVE. THE AWARD IS BEING PAID OUT IN TWO PAYMENTS OF $25,000 EACH, AND THE FIRST WAS RECEIVED IN DECEMBER 2021. IN TURN, SSD RECEIVED OVER THREE DOZEN APPLICATIONS FOR SOLAR GRANT FUNDING FROM LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND PLANS TO MAKE 4 AWARDS IN 2022. THE FUNDS MUST BE PAIRED WITH OUTSIDE SOURCES TO MAXIMIZE VALUE OF THE AWARD. TO DATE, FOUR PERSPECTIVE FAMILIES HAVE BEEN CHOSEN AND SOLAR SITE ASSESSMENTS WERE CONDUCTED IN MID-APRIL 2022.
