CONFERENCES AND MEETINGSAFTER A TWO-YEAR DELAY, THE CGLR FOUNDATION HOSTED THE GREAT LAKES ECONOMIC FORUM IN CHICAGO FROM JUNE 26-28TH. HUNDREDS OF BUSINESS EXECUTIVES, GOVERNMENT OFFICIALS, THOUGHT-LEADERS, AND SUBJECT MATTER EXPERTS FROM THE BINATIONAL GREAT LAKES ECONOMIC REGION ATTENDED THE TICKETED EVENT AND DISCUSSED THE MOST PRESSING SOCIO-ECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL CHALLENGES FACING THE GREAT LAKES REGION. IN ADDITION TO THE FORUM, A SERIES OF BUSINESS AND SUSTAINABILITY FREE WEBINARS AND MEETINGS WERE ALSO HOSTED ON A VARIETY OF TOPICS, FROM WATER STEWARDSHIP AND REGIONAL DECARBONIZATION, TO SUSTAINABLE FOOD SYSTEMS AND PLASTICS POLLUTION AND THE CIRCULAR ECONOMY.
POLICY, RESEARCH AND PROGRAMSDURING FISCAL YEAR 2022-23, THE CGLR FOUNDATION CONTINUED DEVELOPING THE CIRCULAR GREAT LAKES INITIATIVE. THE INITIATIVE BRINGS COMPANIES TOGETHER WITH GOVERNMENT, ACADEMIC, AND NONPROFIT LEADERS TO FORGE A FUTURE WITHOUT MATERIAL WASTE AND POLLUTION, STARTING WITH PLASTIC, BY CLOSING THE LOOP AND CREATING CIRCULAR CITIES, SECTORS AND SUPPLY CHAINS. THE FOCUS OF THIS WORK IN THE 2022-23 TIMEFRAME WAS ON IMPLEMENTING THE STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN FOR A CIRCULAR ECONOMY FOR CONSUMER PLASTICS IN THE GREAT LAKES RELEASED AT THE JUNE 2022 GREAT LAKES ECONOMIC FORUM.
