THE CGLR FOUNDATION BRINGS GREAT LAKES LEADERS FROM GOVERNMENT, BUSINESS, ACADEMIA, AND THE NONPROFIT SECTOR TOGETHER TO FIND NEW WAYS OF HARNESSING THE REGION'S ECONOMIC STRENGTHS, IMPROVING THE WELL-BEING OF THE REGION'S CITIZENS, AND PROTECTING THE ENVIRONMENT FOR FUTURE GENERATIONS.

DURING THE FISCAL YEAR, THE CGLR FOUNDATION CONTINUED TO OPERATE A PROGRAM CALLED THE CIRCULAR GREAT LAKES INITIATIVE. IT BRINGS COMPANIES TOGETHER WITH GOVERNMENT, ACADEMIC, AND NONPROFIT LEADERS TO FORGE A FUTURE WITHOUT MATERIAL WASTE AND POLLUTION, STARTING WITH PLASTIC, BY IDENTIFYING ACTIONS THAT ENABLE A CIRCULAR ECONOMY TO FORM ACROSS THE REGION'S CITIES AND SECTORS. THE FOCUS OF THE WORK IN 2021-22 WAS ON COMPLETING A GAP ANALYSIS OF MATERIALS MANAGEMENT PRACTICES IN THE GREAT LAKES REGION AND FINALIZING AND RELEASING A STRATEGY AND ACTION PLAN FOR BUILDING A PLASTICS CIRCULAR ECONOMY IN THE REGION, WITH A FOCUS ON SIX BEST PRACTICES INVOLVING PLASTICS COLLECTION, PROCESSING, END-MARKETS, CONSUMER EDUCATION, SUPPORTIVE PUBLIC POLICIES, AND FUNDING.
THE CGLR FOUNDATION'S LAUNCHED THE BUSINESS AND SUSTAINABILITY PROGRAM IN THIS FISCAL YEAR, A FORUM FOR CONVENING INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS AND BUILDING BUSINESS SUPPORT FOR A HEALTHY GREAT LAKES ECOSYSTEM AND REGIONAL ECONOMY BY PROVIDING A PLATFORM THAT ENABLES TRUSTING RELATIONSHIPS TO BE FORMED, KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE TO BE SHARED, AND COLLABORATIVE SOLUTIONS AND ACTIONS TO BE FOSTERED. UNDER THE PROGRAM UMBRELLA, THE CGLR FOUNDATION DEVELOPS AND IMPLEMENTS ISSUE-SPECIFIC DIALOGUES AND PROGRAMS TO INFORM THE SOCIOECONOMIC AND ENVIRONMENTAL STRATEGIES, POLICIES, AND SOLUTIONS THAT WILL STRENGTHEN THE REGION'S SUSTAINABILITY AND COMPETITIVENESS, FROM CREATING A CREATING A CIRCULAR ECONOMY AND WATER STEWARDSHIP, TO DECARBONIZING THE REGIONAL ECONOMY.
