THE FARM PROVIDES A CULTURAL COMMUNITY SPACE FOR FAMILIES TO COME TOGETHER, BUILD HEALTHY COMMUNITIES AND CONTINUE AGRICULTURAL TRADITIONS IN THE PIEDMONT OF N.C.

THE BUSINESS DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM BUILDS CAPACITY AND PROVIDES TECHNICAL SUPPORT TO HELP REFUGEE FARMERS BUILD SMALL FARM BUSINESSES THROUGH VARIOUS MARKETING OUTLETS AND COMMUNITY SALES AS WELL AS A VEGETABLE SUBSCRIPTION PROGRAM (CSA). IN 2021, 80 HOURS OF EDUCATIONAL WORKSHOPS AND 40 HOURS OF DIRECT TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE WERE PROVIDED TO 13 REFUGEE FARMERS. AS A RESULT, 13 REFUGEE FARM BUSINESSES EARNED $224,432 DOLLARS COLLECTIVELY THROUGH VARIOUS MARKETING AND SALES OUTLETS INCLUDING COMMUNITY SUPPORTED AGRICULTURE (CSA), FARMERS' MARKETS, THE ONLINE STORE, WHOLESALE, AND SALES TO LOCAL FOOD PANTRIES, WHICH WAS A 20% INCREASE IN TOTAL CUMULATIVE FARMER SALES FROM 2020 TO 2021.
THE FOOD ACCESS PROGRAM ADDRESSES FOOD INSECURITY IN THE GREATER REFUGEE COMMUNITY THROUGH PROVIDING LAND FOR GROWING AND EMERGENCY FOOD DONATIONS TO FOOD INSECURE FAMILIES THAT ARE GROWN BY REFUGEE FARMERS. THROUGH THIS PROGRAM 350 FOOD INSECURE REFUGEE FAMILIES AND 1569 INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED 5922 LBS OF FRESH FOOD MONTHLY DURING THE GROWING SEASON, WHICH WAS A53% PRODUCTION INCREASE FROM PREVIOUS YEAR
REFUGEE TEEN LEADERSHIP PROGRAM FOCUSED ON LEADERSHIP DEVELOPMENT THROUGH FOOD JUSTICE ACTIVISM, ENVIRONMENTAL AND SOCIAL JUSTICE. THE TEEN PROGRAM RESUMED IN JUNE 2021 AFTER BEING ON PAUSE DURING THE PANDEMIC. 168 HOURS OF MENTORSHIP, WORKSHOPS, TRAINING WERE PROVIDED TO 9 YOUTH FROM THE REFUGEE COMMUNITY IN TOPICS OF COLLEGE ACCESS, CULTURE, ACADEMIC SUCCESS, FOOD JUSTICE AND CLIMATE JUSTICE. REFUGEE YOUTH EACH CONTRIBUTED A TOTAL 40 SERVICE HOURS AND COMPLETED 20 HOURS OF LEADERSHIP AND PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORK. 4 CURRENT YOUTH AND 2 YOUTH ALUMNI DEVELOPED AND HELPED FACILITATE THE CHILDREN'S SUMMER CAMP, SERVING AS CAMP COUNSELORS AND ASSISTANCE
