THE MISSION OF SISTERS OF THE SKIES, INC IS TO INCREASE THE NUMBER OF AFRICAN AMERICAN FEMALE PILOTS (WHICH CURRENTLY MAKES UP LESS THAN 1% OF ALL US-BASED PROFESSIONAL PILOTS) THROUGH FLIGHT TRAINING SCHOLARSHIP, MENTORSHIP, AND OUTREACH.

IN 2022, SISTERS OF THE SKIES RECEIVED A CORPORATE GRANT FROM JPMORGAN CHASE IN SUPPORT OF THE AVIATE PROGRAM FOR 2 INDIVIDUAL SCHOLARSHIPS TOTALING $142,500.IN ADDITION TO THEIR PARTNERSHIP WITH UNITED AIRLINES, SISTERS OF THE SKIES AWARDED 16 AVAIATION TRAINING SCHOLARSHIPS IN 2022. SCHOLARSHIPS WERE FUNDED THROUGH ITS ANNUAL SCHOLARSHIP AND FUNDRAISING GALA AND CORPORATE CONTRIBUTIONS.


GIRLS ROCK WINGS (GROW)GROW IS AN ANNUAL AVIATION/STEM OUTREACH PROGRAM WHERE GIRLS OF COLOR BETWEEN THE AGES OF 10-18 YEARS OF AGE ARE EXPOSED TO THE FIELD OF AVIATION. THE GIRLS EXPERIENCE A DISCOVERY FLIGHT WITH A CERTIFIED FLIGHT INSTRUCTOR (CFI) WHO IS A WOMAN OF COLOR, TOUR AN AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL TOWER, DEVELOP A FLIGHT PLAN AND FLY THAT FLIGHT PLAN IN A SIMULATOR, AND TOUR A STATIC DISPLAY. THE 2022 GROW INITIATIVE EXPANDED TO TWO TEXAS CITIES.GROW DALLAS WAS SPONSORED BY AMERICAN AIRLINES AND HELD ON OCTOBER 22, 2022 AT HENRY B. TIPPIE NATIONAL AVIATION EDUCATION CENTER. APPROXIMATELY 30 GIRLS PARTICIPATED AND WERE SERVED BY 42 VOLUNTEERS.GROW HOUSTON WAS HELD ON MAY 7, 2022 AT THE HOUSTON SIGNATURE FLIGHT SUPPORT ELLINGTON FIELD. APPROXIMATELY 50 GIRLS PARTICIPATED AND WERE SERVED BY 72 VOLUNTEERS.
