WE ARE A FLOATING CLASSROOM; OUR FOCUS IS TO EDUCATE WHILE ENTERTAINING OUR GUESTS ON THE ROLE PROVIDENCE AND THE CONTINENTAL NAVY PLAYED IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION.

PROVIDENCE IS A REPRODUCTION OF THE FIRST SHIP AUTHORIZED TO SERVE IN THE CONTINENTAL NAVY. DAILY TOURS INCLUDE AN INTRODUCTION TO THE HISTORY OF THE SHIP, ITS ROLE IN THE AMERICAN REVOLUTION AND AN OVERVIEW OF HOW GEORGE WASHINGTON'S WORK AS A SURVEYOR FITS INTO THE OVERALL STORY. VISITORS ARE GREETED BY A GUIDE IN PERIOD CLOTHING WHO PRESENTS AN OVERVIEW BEFORE ESCORTING THEM TO THEM TO THE SHIP WHERE THEY ARE GREETED BY CAPTAIN JOHN PAUL JONES. ONCE ABOARD, VISITORS VISIT THE QUARTERDECK, MAIN DECK, CAPTAIN'S CABIN AND THE HOLD, WHERE THEY LEARN WHAT LIFE WAS LIKE FOR A SAILOR ABOARD AN 18TH CENTURY SHIP AND HEAR A TALE OR TWO FROM CAPT. JONES. TALL SHIP PROVIDENCE HOSTS EDUCATION PROGRAMS FOR AREA SCHOOLS, YOUTH GROUPS SUCH AS BOY AND GIRL SCOUTS, AND CRAFT BEER AND WINE TASTING CRUISES, PRIVATE CHARTERS AND DINNERS.
