Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3
WE RESCUED 48 DOGS. THE MAJORITY WERE GERMAN SHEPHERDS BUT WE ALSO HAD SEVERAL BELGIAN MALINOIS, LABS, AND HUSKIES. 19 OF THESE DOGS WENT TO VETERANS. SOME WERE TRAINED WITH RED PAW K9 LLC BEFORE GOING TO THEIR VETERANS. SOME WENT ON TO BECOME SERVICE DOGS AND OTHERS AS COMPANIONS OR EMOTIONAL SUPPORT DOGS. ONE LAB WENT TO A MAN WITH DISABILITIES TO BE HIS SERVICE DOG, EVEN THOUGH HE WAS NOT A VETERAN. A VETERAN WITH 100% DISABILITIES FROM A TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJURY (TBI) WANTED A BELGIAN MALINOIS WE HAD RESCUED. THIS DOG WAS EXCEPTIONAL. WE HAD HER TRAINED, SHE COMPLETED THE AKC GOOD CITIZEN CERTIFICATE, AND WE HAD SOMEONE FLY HER TO ACHORAGE, ALASKA TO BE ADOPTED BY HER VETERAN. ONE OF OUR VERY SWEET GERMAN SHEPHERDS WAS ADOPTED 7 TIMES (AND RETURNED) BEFORE SHE FINALLY FOUND HER PERMANENT HOME IN VERMONT. WE HAVE PROVIDED SERVICE DOG VESTS, CRATES, DOG FOOD, KENNELS, COLLARS, LEASHES, AND SUPPORT FOR OUR VETERANS. WE THINK OF THEM AS FAMILY. OUR MISSION IS TO REDUCE THE "22 A DAY" VETERNA SUICIDE RATE.
