I. SHELTER AND CARE PROGRAMS PROVIDE PROTECTION OF ANIMALS NEEDING CARE. THE SHELTER INCLUDES SERVICES SUCH AS ANIMAL DROP-OFF, CARE, MEDICAL ASSESMENT & REHABILITATION, AND VETTED ADOPTIONS. IN FY21 THE SHELTER TOOK IN 4,066 HOMELESS PETS, ADOPTED OUT 3,053 PETS, WITH A LIVE RELEASE RATE OF 93% FOR THE YEAR
II. THE CLINIC ON PREMISES SERVES TO AID IN CARE FOR ANIMALS ON SITE, PERFORM SPAY/NEUTER SURGERIES FOR ADOPTABLE ANIMALS AND FERAL CATS FOR FREE, PROVIDE LOW COST WELLNESS AND PREVENTATIVE SERVICES TO THE PUBLIC. DURING FY21 THE CLINIC SERVED 4,242 ANIMALS FOR PUBLIC LOW-COST WELLNESS SERVICES. THE CLINIC ALSO SPAYED/NEUTERED 2,486 ANIMALS TAKEN IN BY THE SHELTER FOR ADOPTION AND PERFORMED AN ADDITIONAL 691 SURGERIES FOR THE HEALTH AND WELLNESS OF THE ANIMALS UP FOR ADOPTION.
III. THE PET OWNERSHIP PROGRAM DELIVERS HUMANE OUTREACH AND EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS ON THE PROPER CARE OF ANIMALS AND THE PLIGHT OF ANIMAL OVERPOPULATION IN HOUSTON. PROJECTS INCLUDED ARE TO ENHANCE PET OWNERSHIP, SUCH AS KIDS CAMP, KIDS CLUB, SHELTER TOURS, ADOPT-A-CLASSROOM, AND PET SUPPLIES SALES, ETC. DURING THE FY21 YEAR OUR PET SUPPLY SHOP BROUGHT IN SIGNIFICANT DONATIONS TO SUPPLY THE SHOP AND SELL, RESULTING IN REVENUE OF $76,853. OUTREACH TO PET OWNERS, CHILDREN'S GROUPS, AND POTENTIAL ADOPTERS WAS CHALLENGED BY THE LIMITATIONS OF COVID, BUT INNOVATION BROUGHT CAP ONLINE FOR WEEKLY SHELTER TOURS, AT-HOME HUMANE EDUCATION PROJECTS FOR CHILDREN, AND AN OVERFLOW OF FOOD DONATIONS OFFERED TO FOSTER HOMES, RESCUES AND NEEDY PETS.
