Describe the Organization's Program Activity:

THE PHILANTHROPIC FOCUS OF THE KOHN CHARITABLE TRUST IS (A) TO PROMOTE THE WELL-BEING OF CHILDREN WHO ARE UNDERPRIVILEGED AND UNDERREPRESENTED, THROUGH COLLABORATIVE EDUCATIONAL AND HEALTH INITIATIVES AND PROGRAMS THAT PROMOTE FUTURE SELF-SUFFICIENCY; (B) TO ASSIST THOSE WHO HAVE LITTLE OR NO VOICE IN SOCIETY THROUGH EMPOWERMENT AND REPRESENTATION; (C) TO AID THOSE THAT IMPROVE THE QUALITY OF LIFE OF INTELLECTUALLY DISABLED INDIVIDUALS AND TO AID THEIR EMPOWERMENT; AND (D) TO USE SCIENCE TO IMPROVE HUMAN HEALTH BY ADVANCING NEW DISCOVERY AND HEALTH OUTCOME INITIATIVES.CONSISTENT WITH THE MISSION OF THE KOHN CHARITABLE TRUST WE HAVE ESTABLISHED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN WITH THE RACKHAM GRADUATE SCHOOL THE KOHN SCHOLAR AWARD. THIS TWO-YEAR GRADUATE SCHOLARSHIP AT THE GERALD R. FORD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY IS AWARDED TO A GRADUATE STUDENT UNDERREPRESENTED IN PUBLIC POLICY FIELD AND WHO HAS OUTSTANDING QUALIFICATIONS AND PROMISE.


WE HAVE ESTABLISHED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN GERALD R. FORD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY THE KARL AND MARTHA KOHN PROFESSORSHIP OF SOCIAL POLICY. THIS POSITION WILL SUPPORT APPLIED RESEARCH IN U.S. EDUCATION POLICY THAT ADVANCES ALL RESIDENTS. THIS INITIATIVE WILL TAKE SEVERAL YEARS TO COMPLETE FUNDING.


WE HAVE ESTABLISHED AT THE PENNSYLVANIA STATE UNIVERSITY THE LOUIS AND HEDWIG STERNBERG CHAIR IN PLANT BIOLOGY IN THE EBERLY COLLEGE OF SCIENCE. FUNDING FOR THIS INITIATIVE WILL TAKE SEVERAL YEARS TO COMPLETE AND WILL PERMIT THE EBERLY COLLEGE OF SCIENCE TO DISCOVER AND ADVANCE NEW FINDINGS IN PLANT BIOLOGY.


WE HAVE ESTABLISHED AT THE UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN'S GERALD R. FORD SCHOOL OF PUBLIC POLICY THE HAROLD KOHN PROFESSORSHIP. THIS POSITION WILL SUPPORT APPLIED RESEARCH IN U.S. ECONOMY POLICY THAT ADVANCES ALL RESIDENTS. THIS INITIATIVE WILL TAKE SEVERAL YEARS TO COMPLETE FUNDING.
