WE MOBILIZE LAWYERS AND ADVOCATES IN LARGE-SCALE PRO BONO PROGRAMS AND ISSUE ADVOCACY CAMPAIGNS TO ENSURE THAT ALL LEVELS OF GOVERNMENT PROVIDE EQUAL RIGHTS, EQUAL OPPORTUNITIES, AND EQUAL JUSTICE UNDER THE LAW.

PROJECT CORAZON - OUR PROJECT CORAZON TEAM RESPONDED TO THE GROWING HUMANITARIAN CRISIS AT THE SOUTHERN BORDER THAT IS GOING UNNOTICED BY MANY AMERICANS, SUCH AS IN REYNOSA, WHERE OVER 6,000 MIGRANTS ARE LIVING IN CAMPING TENTS ON THE STREETS WITHOUT ACCESS TO RUNNING WATER AND PROTECTION FROM DANGEROUS CARTEL ACTIVITY. DURING THE YEAR, OUR TEAM HELPED OVER 1,300 ASYLUM SEEKERS SECURE LIFE-SAVING PAROLE, MANY OF WHOM WERE VULNERABLE LGBTQ+ INDIVIDUALS, THOSE WITH MEDICAL CONDITIONS, THIRD-LANGUAGE SPEAKERS, AND PREGNANT WOMEN. WE ALSO LAUNCHED AN INITIATIVE TO PROVIDE TEMPORARY PROTECTED STATUS (TPS), A SPECIAL IMMIGRATION STATUS THAT SHIELDS FROM DEPORTATION AND ALLOWS ITS HOLDERS TO WORK, TO UKRAINIAN NATIONALS FLEEING THE WAR WITH RUSSIA. IN 2022, WE HELPED MORE THAN 200 UKRAINIAN NATIONALS WITH THIS SPECIAL LEGAL ASSISTANCE.
RAPID RESPONSE PROGRAM & REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT - THE RAPID RESPONSE PROGRAM SUPPORTS L4GG ACTIVITIES THAT BUILD NEW PROGRAMS AND PROVIDE LEGAL ASSISTANCE DURING MOMENTS OF CRISIS. IN 2022, THE PROGRAM LAUNCHED TWO NEW INITIATIVES, ONE OF WHICH BECAME A STANDALONE PROGRAM IN 2022. FIRST, WHEN RUSSIA INVADED UKRAINE, WE LAUNCHED A NEW PROJECT, TPS FOR UKRAINE PRO BONO PROJECT, TO HELP UKRAINIAN NATIONALS SECURE TEMPORARY IMMIGRATION STATUS THAT SHIELDS THEM FROM DEPORTATION AND ALLOWS THEM TO WORK. SECOND, WE LAUNCHED THE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH LEGAL ASSISTANCE PROJECT TO MOBILIZE ATTORNEYS AND LAW STUDENTS ACROSS THE COUNTRY TO PROVIDE LEGAL GUIDANCE TO FRONT-LINE REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE PROVIDERS. IN 2022, WE TRAINED AND MOBILIZED OVER 1,000 VOLUNTEERS WHO ARE SUPPORTING THE PROJECT, INCLUDING CONDUCTING EXTENSIVE LEGAL RESEARCH AND PROVIDING LEGAL ANALYSIS.
LAWYERS FOR RACIAL JUSTICE - WITH SUPPORT FROM OVER 40 LAW FIRMS AND COALITION PARTNERS, WE PUBLISHED 6 REPORTS AND POLICY RECOMMENDATIONS ON THE CRIMINALIZATION OF BALLOT SELFIES, THE ROLE OF POLICE IN SCHOOLS, PROPOSED STATE POLICIES FOR IMPLEMENTING FEDERAL CLIMATE FUNDING, GENDER-AFFIRMING HEALTHCARE, ELECTION DAY STATE HOLIDAYS, AND THE RACIST ROOTS OF CORPORAL PUNISHMENT IN SCHOOLS. MOREOVER, WE COMPLETED EXTENSIVE RESEARCH AND ANALYSIS ON SEVERAL OTHER RACIAL JUSTICE ISSUES, SUCH AS AUTOMATIC EXPUNGEMENT FEES AND JUVENILE SOLITARY CONFINEMENT, FOR WHICH WE WILL ISSUE ADDITIONAL REPORTS IN THE COMING YEAR.
CLIMATE CHANGE - IN 2022, WE LAUNCHED THE DECARBONIZATION AND CLIMATE RESILIENCY FUNDING CLINIC TO HELP LOW-INCOME AND DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES ACCESS FEDERAL CLIMATE FUNDING FROM RECENT LAWS. WE PRODUCED 6 WEBINARS ON FUNDING ELIGIBILITY, APPLICATION PROCESSES, TIMELINES, AND ACCEPTABLE PROJECTS UNDER THE NEW FEDERAL LEGISLATION, WHICH REACHED 600 MUNICIPALITIES ACROSS 25 STATES. WE ALSO PUBLISHED OUR DISADVANTAGED COMMUNITIES REPORT (DAC REPORT), WHICH PROVIDES CRITICAL RESEARCH TO SUPPORT STATE LEVEL CLIMATE EQUITY POLICIES IN ORDER TO FACILITATE IMPLEMENTATION OF EQUITABLE INVESTMENTS IN GREEN INFRASTRUCTURE IN THE COMING YEARS.
