DISABILITY RIGHTS CONNECTICUT, INC. (DRCT) IS A PRIVATE AND INDEPENDENT NONPROFIT ORGANIZATION DESIGNATED BY THE GOVERNOR TO BE CONNECTICUT'S PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY SYSTEM. DRCT IS A STATEWIDE ORGANIZATION LARGELY FUNDED BY FEDERAL ENTITIES AND AUTHORIZED BY THE DEVELOPMENTAL DISABILITIES ASSISTANCE AND BILL OF RIGHTS ACT, THE PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY FOR INDIVIDUALS WITH MENTAL ILLNESS ACT, THE PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY FOR INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS ACT, AND OTHER PROTECTION AND ADVOCACY ACTS AND THEIR RESPECTIVE IMPLEMENTING REGULATIONS. CONSISTENT WITH ITS FEDERAL MANDATES AND PRIORITIES, DRCT IS RESPONSIBLE FOR CARRYING OUT A VARIETY OF ACTIVITIES TO PROTECT THE CIVIL AND HUMAN RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES INCLUDING INFORMATION AND REFERRAL, TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE, AND LEGAL AND OTHER ADVOCACY.
