IN 2021, WE PARTICIPATED ON SIX DISTINGUISHED COMMITTEES, COMMISSIONS AND/OR TASK FORCES: JUVENILE JURISDICTION ADVISORY COMMITTEE (JJAC), AND THE TASK FORCE FOR RACIAL EQUITY IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM (TREC) WHERE WE ARE ON THE DATA COMMITTEE, LEGISLATIVE COMMITTEE AND CHAIRS THE PUBLIC EDUCATION AND COMMUNICATION COMMITTEE. IN ADDITION, WE PARTICIPATE ON THE ADVISORY COMMITTEE FOR THE SBI CENTER FOR REDUCTION OF LAW ENFORCEMENT USE OF FORCE, HUMAN TRAFFICKING LEGISLATIVE RECOMMENDATIONS COMMITTEE, NORTH CAROLINA COMMISSIONS ON RACIAL AND ETHNIC DISPARITIES IN THE CRIMINAL JUSTICE SYSTEM (NC CRED) AND THE WAKE FOREST PROJECT ON PROSECUTORIAL ACCOUNTABILITY. WE SERVED ON FOUR SUBCOMMITTEES: JJAC LEGISLATIVE AND LEGAL REVISIONS SUBCOMMITTEE, JJAC MINIMUM AGE SUBCOMMITTEE, JJAC SCHOOL JUSTICE PARTNERSHIPS SUBCOMMITTEE AND TREC WORKING GROUP #3 COURT-BASED INTERVENTIONS. WE ORGANIZED AND MODERATED A CRIMINAL JUSTICE REFORM ROUNDTABLE WITH REPUBLICAN LEGISLATORS AND DEMOCRATIC COMMUNITY ACTIVISTS TO ADDRESS ISSUES PLAGUING THE COMMUNITY AND TO COME UP WITH FEASIBLE BIPARTISAN SOLUTIONS. WE WERE ASKED TO TESTIFY IN FRONT OF THE UNITED STATES COMMISSION ON CIVIL RIGHTS ON POST-CONVICTION FINES AND FEES, THE NORTH CAROLINA GENERAL STATUTES COMMISSION ON RECODIFICATION AND THE NORTH CAROLINA SENATE JUDICIARY COMMITTEE ON THE FIRST STEP ACT. WE SPOKE AT SIX PRESS CONFERENCES AND WAS THE CONSERVATIVE POINT-PERSON FOR MEDIA INTERVIEWS. WE ALSO SPOKE AT A LARGE SYMPOSIUM ON OVERCRIMINALIZATION HOSTED BY THE UNC SCHOOL OF GOVERNMENT AND THE KOCH FOUNDATION AND LATER SPOKE AT AN EVENT HOSTED BY STUDENTS FOR SENSIBLE DRUG POLICIES (SSDP). WE ACTIVELY PARTICIPATED IN SEVEN COALITIONS: CLEAN SLATE COALITION, SECOND CHANCE ALLIANCE, COVID19 JUSTICE COALITION, RAISE THE AGE COALITION, HUMAN TRAFFICKING COMMISSION, PERINATAL INCARCERATION TASK FORCE AND A WORKING GROUP FOR BAIL BOND REFORM; AND SPEARHEADED THE EFFORT FOR SECOND CHANCE POLLING TO MEASURE SUPPORT THE IDEALS BEHIND THE SECOND CHANCE ACT LEGISLATION WHICH PASSED UNANIMOUSLY IN BOTH HOUSES AND WAS SIGNED INTO LAW IN JULY. WE WERE SELECTED TO PARTICIPATE IN THE CHAN ZUCKERBERG INITIATIVES INAUGURAL STATE JUSTICE ACCELERATOR PROGRAM.WE PARTNERED WITH WAKE FOREST LAW SCHOOL CLINIC TO CONDUCT A COMPREHENSIVE REVIEW OF WRONGFUL CONVICTIONS IN NC. WE ARE WORKING WITH WAKE FOREST LAW ON A PROSECUTORIAL ACCOUNTABILITY PROJECT.WE CONTINUE OUR PARTNERSHIP WITH PBS ON A SERIES OF TV DOCUMENTARIES AND DOCUSERIES ON ISSUES RELATED TO CRIMINAL JUSTICE.
