THE FOUNDATION CONTRIBUTES TO THE CREATION, SUPPORT, AND ONGOING OPERATION OF RESIDENTIAL SETTINGS IN THE UNITED STATES THAT PERSONALIZE AND DEINSTITUTIONALIZE LONG-TERM CARE FACILITIES AND INSTEAD CREATE A HOME-LIKE SETTING THAT PROMOTES AND SUPPORTS PATIENTS' INDEPENDENCE, REGARDLESS OF THE STAGE AND/OR SEVERITY OF THE PATIENTS' ILLNESSES. THE FOUNDATION SEEKS TO SUPPORT PROGRAMS AND FACILITIES THAT ARE OPERATED BY CHARITABLE ORGANIZATIONS AND THAT INCLUDE BOTH THE AVAILABILITY OF 24-HOUR SKILLED NURSING CARE AND THE USE OF INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY TO BETTER ALLOW PATIENTS, INCLUDING THOSE WHO ARE WHEELCHAIR-BOUND, TO EXERCISE INDEPENDENT CONTROL OVER THEIR ENVIRONMENTS.
