THE PURPOSES OF CMDSS ARE:1. PROVIDE AN UNDERSTANDING OF DOWN SYNDROME (DS) THRU THE DISSEMINATION OF INFORMATION TO FAMILIES, PROFESSIONALS, AND OTHERS INTERESTED IN DS.2. TO PROVIDE NON-PROFESSIONAL SERVICES, SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DS AND THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AND CAREGIVERS.3. TO PROVIDE OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP AND INTERATION FOR INDIVIDUALS AFFECTED BY OR INTERESTED IN DS.4. TO INCREASE AWARENESS AND ACCEPTANCE OF INDIVIDUALS WITH DS.5. TO PROTECT AND PROMOTE THE RIGHTS OF PEOPLE WITH DS, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO, THEIR RIGHTS TO ACHIEVE THEIR FULL POTENTIAL AND TO FULLY PARTICIPATE IN ALL ASPECTS OF COMMUNITY LIFE.

THE GROUP SUPPORTS NUMEROUS PROGRAMS INCLUDING A NEW PARENT GUIDE ON DOWN SYNDROME, AN ANNUAL PHOTO CALENDAR FEATURING INDIVIDUALS WITH DOWN SYNDROME, A RESOURCE LIBRARY, EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS AND MAINTAINS AN INFORMATION WEBSITE ON DOWN SYNDROME.


THE GROUP PROVIDES SUPPORT AND ADVOCACY SERVICES TO INDIVIDUALS WITH DOWN SYNDROME, THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS, AND THEIR CAREGIVERS BY PROVIDING RESOURCES TO TEACHERS/DIRECT SUPPORT PROFESSIONALS AND BY PROVIDING OPPORTUNITIES FOR FELLOWSHIP AND INTERACTION WITH INDIVIDUALS AFFECTED BY OR INTERESTED IN DOWN SYNDROME.
