WE PROVIDE FREE INSTRUCTION TO ENABLE RAVALLI COUNTY ADULTS TO BECOME LITERATE OR COMPLETE THEIR HIGH SCHOOL EQUIVALENCY DIPLOMA

116 PARTICIPANTS ENROLLED TO LEARN BASIC READING, WRITING, AND MATH SKILLS THROUGH ONE-TO-ONE AND SMALL GROUP INSTRUCTION. STUDENTS WERE 16 AND OLDER AND NOT ENROLLED IN PUBLIC SCHOOL. 35 STUDENTS COMPLETED THEIR HIGH SCHOOL DIPLOMA AND 16 ENTERED POST-SECONDARY EDUCATION. EXPLANATION OF GRANTS: 52 STUDENTS RECEIVED SCHOLARSHIPS FOR TESTING FEES RANGING FROM $10.75 TO $100 PER PERSON AND TOTALING $2775. FEES WERE PAID DIRECTLY TO THE TESTING CENTER SO THE FUNDS COULD NOT BE USED FOR ANY OTHER PURPOSE.


FAMILY LITERACY ACTIVITIES INCLUDED THE DISTRIBUTION OF 564 NEW BOOKS TO CHILDREN FROM 0-5 YEARS OLD WHO LIVE IN LOW-INCOME FAMILIES AND ARE ENROLLED IN HEAD START. BOOKS WERE PURCHASED WITH LOCAL DONATIONS AND CHILDREN WERE ABLE TO CHOOSE THEIR OWN BOOKS TO TAKE HOME AND READ OVER AND OVER WITH FAMILY MEMBERS.
