Describe the Organization's Program Activity:
Part 3 - Line 4a
THE BUTTE FOOD BANK PROVIDES FOOD TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED. THE FOOD BANK TYPICALLY SERVES A MONTHLY AVERAGE OF 700 FAMILIES. EACH YEAR THE ORGANIZATION DISTRIBUTES NEARLY 1.7 MILLION POUNDS OF FOOD THROUGH OUR VARIOUS PROGRAMS. DURING 2021, THE FOOD BANK SERVED 6,000 INDIVIDUALS, WHICH WAS A DECREASE COMPARED TO AVERAGE YEARS. MANY CLIENTS RECEIVED SUBSIDIES FROM THE GOVERNMENT DURING COVID, WHICH CONTRIBUTED TO THE DECREASED NEED. AS SUBSIDIES ARE ENDING, NUMBERS OF CLIENTS ARE BEGINNING TO RISE AGAIN.
THE BACKPACK PROGRAM PROVIDES MEALS AND SNACKS FOR STUDENTS EVERY WEEKEND. WITH THESE MEALS, STUDENTS ARE MORE ATTENTIVE IN CLASSES, RETAIN MORE INFORMATION, AND HAVE BETTER MOODS TO WELCOME CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES AND HOMEWORK. BACKPACK MEALS/SNACKS ARE DISTRIBUTED WEEKLY TO OVER 400 CHILDREN THROUGHOUT THE YEAR, INCLUDING DURING THE SUMMER MONTHS.
THE BUTTE EMERGENCY FOOD BANK PROVIDES FREE MEALS TO INDIVIDUALS IN NEED. TWICE A WEEK, COMMUNITY MEALS ARE PROVIDED. ON AVERAGE, OVER 12,000 MEALS ARE PROVIDED ANNUALLY. DURING 2021, THE NUMBER OF MEALS SERVED WAS NEARLY 6,000 DUE TO DECREASED NEEDS AS MANY INDIVIDUALS RECEIVED GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES. IN ADDITION, DURING COVID, THE FOOD BANK DID NOT OFFER SIT-DOWN MEALS AND, INSTEAD, PROVIDED SACK LUNCHES DUE TO THE INABILITY TO HOLD LARGE GATHERINGS. AS GOVERNMENT SUBSIDIES HAVE ENDED AND GATHERINGS HAVE BEGUN AGAIN, THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUALS SERVED HAS BEEN INCREASING.
