WE ARE PUTTING HEAVY EMPHASIS ON SPECIES NATIVE TO MONTANA AND TO EDUCATION KITS AND LESSON PLANS WHICH WILL BE AVAILABLE TO TEACHERS IN THE BILLINGS AREA. THESE PLANS WILL ALLOW SCHOOL GROUPS TO FOCUS ON CERTAIN TOPICS SUCH AS EVOLUTION, ECOLOGY, CONSERVATION, MIGRATION AND PROVIDE FOCUS FOR IN DEPTH STUDY. NO FEES WILL BE CHARGED FOR THE MATERIALS. FOR YOUNGER STUDENTS, WE OFFER A WORKSHOP ON EGG CANDLING, EGGS AND SMALL INCUBATORS FOR CLASSROOM USE AND A COLORING BOOK OF DUCKS. WE ALSO HAVE BOOKLETS ON DUCK CARE IN THE SHAPE OF A DUCK.
MONTANA FISH AND GAME DEPARTMENT:WE ARE WORKING WITH MONTANA FISH AND GAME IN THEIR GREENWING PROJECT TO TEACH YOUNG PEOPLE WATERFOWL IDENTIFICATION. PROPER IDENTIFICATION IS ESSENTIAL FOR HUNTERS. HELD GREENWING DAY.MANY HUNTERS DO NOT REALIZE THAT A TRUMPETER SWAN HAS A GRAY JUVENILE PHASE AND THAT THEY CAN EASILY BE CONFUSED WITH A GOOSE. THE FISH AND GAME DEPARTMENT FILMS AND RECORDS OUR BIRDS. WE ARE ALSO PROVIDING THEM WITH EDUCATION PHOTOGRAPHS. FURNISHED INTERN TO NEW NON-GAME BIOLOGIST PARTICIPATING IN DATA COLLECTION & COLLECTION OF BIRDS DURING PARASITE DIE OFF AND BLACK ROSY FINCH SURVEY. HELD MIGRATION BIRD DAY.
MT WATERFOWL FOUNDATION:WE PROVIDED BIRDS AND EXPERTISE AND EQUIPMENT TO THE MONTANA WATERFOWL FOUNDATION. THIS PROVIDES ENTERTAINMENT TO PEOPLE LIVING IN THIER HOME, THEIR SWANS ARE WINTERED AT OUR FACILITY HUNDREDS OF SWANS HAVE BEEN NURTURED & RELEASED IN THE LAST 10 YEARS.INDUSTRIAL PROTECTION:WE ARE FURNISHING EXPERTISE TO OIL AND GAS COMPANIES AND COMPANIES MAINTAINING WATER UNDESIRABLE FOR DUCKS. WE OFFER ADVICE AND SOMETIMES TEMPORARY NETTING TO KEEP DUCKS FROM LANDING IN CONTAMINATED WATER. PROVIDED OIL SPILL RESPONSE TRAINING.
MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION:WE HAVE AGREED TO MAINTAIN AND MANAGE A WETLAND FOR THE MONTANA DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION. WE ARE WORKING WITH THEM TO CONTROL INVASIVE PLANT SPECIES AND TO MONITOR WATERFOWL POPULATION.OTHER ITEMS:NUMEROUS REGIONAL ARTISTS, PAINTERS, PHOTOGRAPHERS AND SCULPTORS HAVE CONTINUED TO VISIT OUR FACILITY TO STUDY OR FILM OUR BIRDS IN THEIR ACTIVITIES. WE ARE THE ONLY REGIONAL SOURCE FOR MANY SPECIES. PARTICIPATED WITH YVAS AUDOBON IN OSPREY CITIZEN SCIENCE PROJECT TO TAKE BLOOD SAMPLES OF HEAVY METALS & COLLECT REPRODUCTIVE DATA.RAISED 5 ENDANGERED CHINESE MORGANSER IN THE SUMMER OF 2015.WE ARE COLLECTING TWINE TO RECYCLE; BIRDS GET TANGLED IN TWINE, WE ARE OFFERING EDUCATION ON THIS DANGER.VETERINARIANS:WE CONTINUE TO WORK WITH LOCAL VETERINARIANS AND THE FISH AND WILDLIFE DEPARTMENT IN THE REHABILITATION OF INJURED BIRDS. WE ARE ALSO MONITORING THE WETLAND POPULATION FOR BIRDS DYING FROM DISEASES COMMUNICABLE TO HUMANS.
