THE TEXAS AFTER VIOLENCE PROJECT IS A COMMUNITY-BASED ARCHIVE AND DOCUMENTARY PROJECT CULTIVATING DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF STATE-SANCTIONED VIOLENCE ON INDIVIDUALS, FAMILIES, AND COMMUNITIES. OUR MISSION IS TO DO RESPONSIBLE, INCLUSIVE, AND ETHICAL RESEARCH AND DOCUMENTATION, AND TO BUILD AN ARCHIVE OF STORIES AND OTHER MATERIALS THAT SHIFT NARRATIVE POWER TO MARGINALIZED AND OPPRESSED COMMUNITIES AND PROMOTE RESTORATIVE AND TRANSFORMATIVE JUSTICE.

2022 SAW A CONTINUATION OF THE ORGANIZATION'S LONGSTANDING DEDICATION AND WORK OF DOCUMENTING AND ARCHIVING THE EXPERIENCES AND STORIES OF THOSE DIRECTLY IMPACTED BY STATE-SANCTIONED VIOLENCE. THIS PAST YEAR, THE ORGANIZATION COMPLETED OVER 25 INTERVIEWS, INCLUDING ALL POST-INTERVIEWING PROCESSING. THE ORGANIZATION COMPLETED THEIR FIRST COHORT OF VISIONS AFTER VIOLENCE FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM AND SHARED WORKS BY THEIR ARTIST AND WRITER IN RESIDENCE PROGRAM. ADDITIONALLY, THE ORGANIZATION FACILITATED THE COMMUNITY ARCHIVES COLLECTIVE CONFERENCE FOR 2022.


THE ORGANIZATION CONTINUED TO ACT AS FISCAL SPONSOR FOR MOURNING OUR LOSSES.
