THE JCPENNEY FOUNDATION WAS ESTABLISHED ON OCTOBER 15, 2001, TO PROVIDE CHILDREN WITH HIGH QUALITY, AFFORDABLE AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS TO HELP THEM REACH THEIR FULL POTENTIAL. THROUGH COLLABORATION, FUNDING, AND VOLUNTEER SUPPORT, THE FOUNDATION WORKED WITH NATIONAL PROVIDERS OF AFTER-SCHOOL CARE TO RAISE AWARENESS OF THE NEED FOR AFTER-SCHOOL PROGRAMS AND TO MAINTAIN AND INCREASE THE NUMBER OF PROGRAMS AVAILABLE IN ORDER TO HAVE THE CHILDREN POWER THEIR POTENTIAL.THE JCPENNEY FOUNDATION IS CURRENTLY ORGANIZED AND OPERATED TO HELP CLOSE THE OPPORTUNITY GAP FOR UNDERSERVED STUDENTS BY BUILDING THE CONFIDENCE THEY NEED TO STAY ENGAGED IN SCHOOL, ATTEND COLLEGE, AND PREPARE FOR A REWARDING CAREER. THE FOUNDATION INVESTS IN NON-PROFIT ORGANIZATIONS THAT PROVIDE STUDENTS WITH TOOLS FOR SUCCESS, SUCH AS CLOTHING NEEDS, YOUTH PROGRAMMING, AND CAREER READINESS SUPPORT.
