FREE BOOK FAIRS WERE HELD IN SCHOOLS THAT SERVE A POPULATION OF GREATER THAN 70% ECONOMICALLY DISADVANTAGED STUDENTS. 15,700 STUDENTS ATTENDED THESE FAIRS AND OVER 31,000 BOOKS WERE GIVEN AWAY. THE SOARING SUMMER READING PROGRAM IS SPECIFICALLY CREATED FOR LOWER INCOME STUDENTS IN PRE-K THROUGH 2ND GRADE WITH LIMITED ACCESS TO READING MATERIALS AT HOME. THE INTENDED PURPOSE IS TO INSTITUTE READING OVER THE SUMMER AND TO REINFORCE READING SKILLS DEVELOPED OVER THE SCHOOL YEAR.
